DVD contents cannot be seen

Hi,
I'll try & explain best I can the situation I am trying to deal with.

First, I recently bought a Toshiba 780P HDTV. The other equipment I use are:
DishTV VIP 722K DVR
Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD/VCR Recorder(No Tuner)

I DVR a painting show every week, record it to a DVD & take down to my garage to view & follow along.
Before the new TV, I had the DVR, DVD/VCR & TV connected via coax & standard A/V cables(Yellow, Red & White. I was able to do as described above, but now that I have the new TV, there is a problem

I have now all 3 components connected via HDMI cables & Audio cables to the TV.

The TV has the usual Input settings, Ant/Cable, Video, HDMI1,2,3 & PC. I use HDMI1 to watch TV & DVR recordings. But when I record from DVR to the DVD, here's where the problem comes in.

The DVD/VCR seems to be recording as the display shows the time elapsed.
I switch the TV Input to HDMI2 & I can pull up the DVD/VCR menus & see the contents on the DVD, but when I click on what I think I recorded, the screen turns to gray & no playback is seen.
That said, I took the DVD to the other room, tried it & it doesn't display any image there either. However, I can put other DVD's I made with prior TV & set up, & watch those.

So I am not sure now if it's the DVD's (I used same ones I recorded other shows on on prior set up) or some other settings.

I just replaced the TV, used HDMI instead of the standard A/V Cables, so not sure what is wrong

Many thanks in advance & feel free to ask any questions that may help resolve this.

Re: DVD contents cannot be seen

First, thanks for your reply & I apologize for this late reply, but some medical issues have recurred, that required my attention.

Before you were nice enough to respond, I had it set up to record & I can see the finished product. I have to record in HDMI2, play back in HDMI1, but the quality is horrible! Whether I record in 2 hour or 6 hour mode, it matters not as it is blurry, fuzzy, etc.

I have to admit, I am not familiar with the term HDCP, but will Google it.

Oh, the configuration I am using to record, albeit horribly is as follows:

DVR: HDMI to TV
DVR: A/V cables Out to A/V In on VCR/DVD

VCR/DVD Player Recorder: HDMI to TV

Thanks again but won't component cables be the same, but in theory, of less quality?

I will do some research on the HDCP issue you mentioned as a possibility.

Re: DVD contents cannot be seen

From what I could research, I do not believe it's an HDCP issue since I was always able to record from the DISH DVR with beautiful resolution. Thanks though.
So I am back to where I was; can record, but poor resolution
