no crossover on pre outs

I have a Marantz SR6005 AVR connected via the front left and front right pre outs to a stereo amp with amp direct mode, and it seems to me that the AVR is not applying the set crossover of 80Hz to these outputs. I have attached an REW SPL graph showing both front speakers. It seems to me that there should be very little signal under 80 Hz going to the front speakers.

Audyssey is turned on, and the crossover is set manually to 80Hz for all speakers. A subwoofer is attached, and the AVR has been told there is a sub. The sub is connected to the low level sub output.

My next action will be to connect the front speakers directly to the AVR, and measure that.

Has anyone seen this before, is there some setting in the SR6005 that I might have missed?

Re: no crossover on pre outs

After lots of Googling I think I need to change the subwoofer setting from LEF+MAIN to LFE only

But if that is the case the manual for the SR6005 is not very clear on this, since it says:

Select LFE+Main if you want the bass signals to always be produced from the subwoofer

No, that was not it, it was already set for LFE.

Re: no crossover on pre outs

It looks like the front panel pre-out stereo connections are for a separate amplifier for zone 2, so there would be no separation of the LFE signal with regard to these connections.

Re: no crossover on pre outs

The LFE+Main setting should only come into play if you have your speakers set to Large. In that case you would be running your main speakers full range and the LFE or .1 content would be sent to both the sub and the main speakers. This would not be the cause of the issue you seem to be experiencing as the material would only be the LFE. If you have your mains set to small and a crossover of 80Hz I would expect to see some roll-off down into the 60Hz - 50Hz range, but nothing like your graph indicates. Perhaps in Direct mode your Marantz by-passes the crossover setting? I was under the impression that all settings were applied to the pre-outs no matter what. Unfortunately I don't know for sure.
