Cambridge DAC Magic Pro & B&K Reference 50

I am a budding audiophile. I am mostly pulling together older quality components. My source of audio and video comes from flacc files from my mac or movies from my apple TV. That signal is going into my Crambridge DAC Magic PRO and then through RCA cables to my B&K Reference 50 preAmp into the DVD input. Which of these devices provides the best analog signal? Is the B&K degrading the signal? Is there a way to not use the B&K's DAC?

I hope this makes sense. I would appreciate any feedback.
Thank You

Re: Cambridge DAC Magic Pro & B&K Reference 50

Welcome to the Forum Michael!

For starters, the B&K’s DAC can’t possibly degrade the signal. In the connection scheme you’ve described it’s not being used, because the input signal from the Cambridge is analog.

Assuming you’re using the B&K as the “heart” of your system (as it has volume controls, Dolby Digital processing for your movies, etc.), the Cambridge is redundant. The B&K accepts the same Toslink and S/PDIF inputs the Cambridge does, so the Mac and Apple TV outputs could go straight to the B&K.

Regards,
Wayne
