Denon 3312ci or Martanz sr5006 WHICH SHOULD I GO WITH

I would like the opinion of the masses. I currently have the Marantz sr5006 with Focal Chorus 814's I think there is something lacking and want to add center and surrounds but think that adding more speakers will only hurt the focal 814's performance so Thinking of switching . ANY REVIEWS OR ADVICE IS APPRECIATED

Hello,
So you are not currently using a subwoofer? If not, I am sure you are finding something lacking as it would simultaneously provide you the lowest octaves and take stress off your Marantz allowing more headroom to drive the Focals highs and midrange, it would be a huge addition.

I do not think in any way would adding the 814's matching CC and a pair of surrounds take away anything from it. Granted the CC often handles the lions share of dialogue heavy soundtracks, but with HT it is by design. Not all 5.1 soundtracks are created equal, but some really do make excellent use of all available transducers.
Best,
J

Hi,

I would seriously consider these words of wisdom. Switching AVR will bring you nothing more than what you are experiencing now. Both receivers are virtually the same.

Also agree with the above :T
If your not using a sub thats where all your available funds need to go.

so if I add center and surrounds it will not hurt the power out put to the fronts. I only ask because denon claims to be discrete power for each channel and the Martanz is rated at 2 channels driven

Hello,
At this point, the Denon and the Marantz models are truly kissing cousins. Even my Denon AVR-452OCI is practically a clone of the Marantz AV8801. Moreover, while you do get more power driving 2 channels out of 7, much source material is encoded 5.1 where once your single pair of speakers is not tasked with doing everything, there will be discrete information meant for your Mains, Center Channel, Surrounds and Subwoofer.

As I posted prior, a great deal of of material is encoded for the CC. Moreover, the Surround Channel usually has usually handles effects and atmospherics if you would. And with a Subwoofer added, whatever AVR you use will normally not be tasked with handling anything higher than 80hz. Not being responsible for LFE and so forth will make a big difference.
Best,
J
