Re: Upgrading With Two Stereo Integrity HST12's

Not sure why my images keep breaking...I'll try this again:

Insert mounting:

Ready for applying primer coat:

Single Stage Paint Datasheet:

Wire wrapping:

Dropping drivers in:

Tightening them down:

Still going strong:

The Speakerpower amp continues to be the silent monster in the corner. I've not been able to get the fans to turn on....ever. Yet it delivers a huge amount of power to the point where I can approach the HST's mechanical limits.

Re: Upgrading With Two Stereo Integrity HST12's

I logged in recently and noticed that some of my pictures weren't working! I suspect it was because Dropbox changed its hosting capabilities. So I'm adding pics from the build in case others find them useful. I can't edit the original posts because it's been too long unfortunately.

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment.

Regarding the placement, it was purely out of necessity. Room response + furniture restrictions = placement behind the sofa, but I needed to maintain plenty of area to walk around the sofa. If placed horizontally, someone's foot or the vacuum would certainly dent the driver in short order. So up they went. I like turning around and watching them pulsate during deep bass movie passages.

Not a problem! The single stage paint color is just great to me.

The first picture was taken when I finished them back in 2016. The second picture I took today in the location they've been in for the past year. In the far back, the SpeakerPower amplifier is in a little stand I made so that it would site vertically against the wall. Keen eyes will notice that I alternated the screw finishes.

I also noticed that DropBox's new public link change some time ago impacted ALL of my pictures in this thread. I'll have to fix that....sorry everyone.
Very cool looking! I really dig that paint color.

Even though I use HST-11's in a DO side-firing arrangement in my movie room - seeing your HST-12's firing upward looks crazy awesome.

Just a long term update of the subs...

I decided not to build the grills. I've had no issues with the enclosures getting bumped, spilled on or any sort of contact other than need for a quarterly wipe for dust. And they look smaller than they would with a grill [tall enough to clear the surround] attached using the magnets I embedded. Besides, the cone and surround are a source of conversation for guests, haha. The paint finish still looks brand new as well.

Regarding performance, they're still providing the low end I've enjoyed since Day 1. The amplifier has been a great match for it as they both reach their limits simultaneously. I did have to get an electrician put it on its on circuit from the breaker.

Still very happy with my work and equipment purchases...
Awesome! Thanks for the long-term review. Do you have any pictures of the subwoofers in the enclosures?

Nick (Electrodynamic): If I orient my enclosures so that the driver is facing up, will this introduce any negative long term effects to the suspension?
It will not. The majority of the compliance of the suspension is actually from the surround, not the spider, and the surround is very durable and reliable. Even though there is a good bit of moving mass on your drivers the drivers will not sag over time...unless your understanding of "time" is thirty or fourty years at which point it may sag a few millimeters.

Re: Upgrading With Two Stereo Integrity HST12's

My 'impatient impressions' snapshot:

Received the amplifier earlier this week. I powered everything up and "checked for leaks" using Battle:LA

With everything confirmed to be sealed up nicely, I set my preamp to -5dB and listened to the pair while they reside in my most room friendly location (behind the sofa, one in a corner the other 2/3 across the same back wall).

Great impact, very deep clean bass. The sofa readily shakes. The first scenes are much more intense and the bass is effortless.

Excellent starting point
