Re: Fi IB318 or Ultimax 18-22

If you can check into the IB24's at Stereo Integrity - he still makes them even though they are not listed...the output below 20hz is flat out rediculous - I only have 1 and I don't even bother turning on my UM15's anymore

Re: Fi IB318 or Ultimax 18-22

I know the um18 and 15 work great in a tuba box and will put out some amazing sound levels with very low power
I've made these boxes using the 12" and the box was 22 wide 26" high and 36"deep and came in at 200lbs. Give or take 20lbs
And I ran a Yamaha p5000s in mono and I could get 132db and the green Signal lights barrel would blink and had the volume control of the amp about 2/3 way up and the marantz sub Perot set at O

Re: Fi IB318 or Ultimax 18-22

At least in theory, the higher Qts parameter of the Fi IB3 18 means will function better in an infinite baffle situation, and the lower Qts of the UM18-22 is happier in a box... BUT, the UM18-22's Qts isn't so low that it couldn't be in and IB setup, and the IB3 18's isn't so high that it couldn't be boxed. If you have at least 36ft^3 of space behind your baffle, either one works on paper.

The big difference is the IB3 18 will displace a lot more air... it has a 50% larger Xmax and a marginally smaller piston area. This will translate to a lower system f3, meaning more bottom end. And since that's what IBs are all about, that's the direction I'd go.

Fi IB318 or Ultimax 18-22

I currently have a pair of adire audio tempest for my IB. I want to upgrade to the either the ib318 or the um18-22. I see the FI is quite popular but what about the ultimax? Pricewise I can get a pair of the ultimax for $100 less than the ib318. Any suggestions?
