New Dayton Audio HO 15 Build

I am building a box for my buddy. I've had this Dayton Audio HO 15 laying around for a couple of years. Box is around 6.4 CUFT @ 19.5 HZ, powered by a BASH 300.

A port that exits from the top of the enclosure? Somebody doesn't have little children.

His youngest is like 5, I'll put a mesh at the bottom of the port.

Might want to consider placing mesh at the top instead. That way no one has to fish anything out from the very bottom of the port.

I think I have a grill somewhere in the garage that will work.

For aerodynamic purposes, you might want to consider rounding over the inside edge of your port. That sharp corner could produce audible distortion at high port velocities... also, it will be more comfortable when reaching in to retrieve Lego Boba Fett when the kid figures out the port makes a good Sarlac Pit.

Re: New Dayton Audio HO 15 Build

If you do not round edges a quick and easy finish would be formica attached with contact cement. You can order flat black formica from Home Depot. You would need a small router with a ball bearing guide cutter to trim the fomica after it has been glued on (see attached).

A photo of my finished parts-express 18" subwoofer is attached. All but the front is finished with matte-black formica. Since the front has curved edges it is finished with black shellac rubbed on. Shellac will seal anything, even mdf.

Re: New Dayton Audio HO 15 Build

Finally finished the sub, just painted it black for now. Watch some of my favorite scenes on it and it sounds pretty good! Thanks for all the inputs!
