Re: 2 x 15 cu ft FIQ18 multi tuned ported subs

Right here's go update time.

The first sub is finished and ready to veneer and the second sub I am just waiting for the bottom piece to dry and the holes which I filled to dry too. I will upload some pics very soon along with the pics off my bruises to show how much pain I am in right now.

cheers

Re: 2 x 15 cu ft FIQ18 multi tuned ported subs

Here are the pics off the first finished sub. I have decided to paint the back part one more time and wet sand to see if it comes up a bit better but I will do that last.

With regards to the veneering can I just use normal titebond wood glue. I think I used this to apply on my test piece, so you apply to the back off the veneer and the mdf, wait to dry and then iron on with a cotton tshirt between the iron and veneer.

I couldnt get any good pics off the bruises but take my word for it I am in alot off pain but I hope it was all worth it.

cheers

Not that I know much about veneering but I've never heard of that. As far as I know it's either glue on the veneer or iron it on.

Re: 2 x 15 cu ft FIQ18 multi tuned ported subs

Mike,

I have now finished both subs so just a little sanding tomorrow morning and I will start the veneering. I need to buy some more so it won't be 100% finished until next month. I am not sure whether to use the same egg crate foam from the last subs or get something else.

Its been a long week and I am glad that I am nearly there. I still need to do the grills but I have two pieces off wood left from the last build which are perfect for that.

I will upload some off my veneering pics tomorrow.

cheers

Bambino,

Thanks mate, its been really hard this week. I am going to veneer what I can which will be mainly the visible parts, then over the next two months buy more veneer and then stain. Money's tight at the mo so I will bring them in the living room probably next weekend and do some tests. I will have to run with the high tune for a bit until I get my port blockers. I need to work out what density off foam I need.

The high tune will be the most fun as it gives the most output above 20hz.

cheers

Good to see your steadily coming along.

My SLA builds are taking me almost 2 months just for 2.

Re: 2 x 15 cu ft FIQ18 multi tuned ported subs

I started the veneering today, at last. I have veneered the top, side 1 and the front and that took me all day. Its turned out really well and I found it much easier than I thought. I used the same titebond wood glue. I first thinned it down with water but found that it did not stick too well so I just used it neat which worked a treat. I will do the same to the other sub tomorrow and then add the egg crate and then they will be ready to bring into the house for testing as I will have to wait until next month to get some more veneer.

The only other thing I need to do is touch up the black port area where it touches the veneer but that minor.

Oh this was ten times easier than mucking around with black gloss paint!

One more thing, I don't believe it, I might actually complete a sub build! LOL

cheers

nice job, these are looking sweet. Cant wait to see the finished varnished jobs now. f you had space, you could lie them on their sides and have them as units

Cheers Dan,

I could have four off them, lay them on their sides and stack them. LOL.

Only joking, that would result in divorce.
