Erwin, are you doing these plans yourself, or do you have a professional doing them for you? I'm just curious because they are very impressive and I would hope to be able to use something similar when the time comes for my basement.
I am a building construction manager and did these myself with Vectorworks. This is professional CAD aimed at architects and the likes and I use about 10% of it's possibilities! It costs around the $2,000 mark, depending on the options. Both OSX and PC versions exist. I don't believe one could copy it, unlike Autocad, which is more spread in the industry (PC only). There are some basic CAD programs for little cash out there, though I could not recommend one, I never used other than VW or Autocad. Big plus for me was that VW is also in Dutch.

Thanks Erwin. I guess if I want proper plans like these I'll have to engage a designer to do my theatre, and considering what my budget will be... it isn't likely. Very nice work though.

Those are the only DIY speakers I''ve seen make use of a CNC. Do many people do this?

There are guys over on the PartsExpress forum that do CNC for builds. I have a shop a few miles from me that has a CNC as well. Hoping to use it on my next build.

Nice work Edwin!!! I'm sure your guests will be amazed at what this system will do.

Tom, not many people are able to take advantage of that technology for DIY projects, but I've seen a few. Usually it's someone who works with the machines for a living and doing their project off hours or something like that. It would be labour- and materials-intensive, but man, what a result!

Just a little bump: I am still patiently awaiting the Behringer NU6000 stereo amp to surface. To be zen or not to be zen, that's the question...

Re: Erwin's 550 Liter LLT / 13 Hz / Maelström 18"

The Behringer NU6000 is avalable at last and I got one. The price was €340. That's good bang for the buck! I ordered some 5 meter XLR interconnects and Neutrik cable connectors since that's what the NU6000 needs.

Here's a copy of today's post in the "iNUKE coming" thread I made:

Spent the afternoon making decent speaker connects with the neutriks. No way that you will insert a 6 mm2 speaker wire straight into those Neutrik NL2FC cable connectors. I terminated the wires with the proper "shoes" that you fix with a special plier (which I bought since I am building a house anyway). Those went in and fitted perfectly in the Neutriks.

Same decent termination of the same 6 mm2 wires inside the LLT subs. It will never get undone, no matter how heavy things get in there!

Then we moved the LLT's from the workplace (after some heavy vacuming) to my old showroom beneath my living room.

Since the Emotiva ERC-1 has XLR outputs, I went straight from there into the NU6000 (which accepts no RCA). I used both L+R. The NU6000 was set to mono and the LF/HF splitter on (100Hz crossover). So channel A (+100) went to an old Philips tower and the lows (-100) from channel B went to one LLT.

Started the 2 devices, with volume to nought. Immediately, the Behringer started it's loud fan. I was aspecting to hear the fan, but this is really loud, unacceptable for home duties. It's as loud as when you rip a CD with 22x speed. A mod will be needed, or else a ventilated soundproof box?

Turning up both A & B and everything seemed in perfect working order. I had me burned a CD with some neat bass on it, like PIL, Jah Wobble, Basement Jaxx, Yazoo, James Blake and a couple of tracks of the Radiohead TKOL RMX project. As aspected, it was James Blake's Limit To Your Love that got the whole house vibrating... but not rattling. Al this with only 30% off the volume and zero calibration.

That's it for now folks. I need to work my but off to finish the house: I am determined to install the HT Jan 2013! In the mean time: the ERC stays with the Behringer in testing position, since I only listen to the Mac mini as a source these days on the set with the Jamo's.

A few pics of the beasts, patiently waiting for me to get their home finished, some 30 miles from where they are now.

As mentioned before, the subs will be installed invisible, behind an AT screen, together with the yet to build center speaker (special design with 2 Eminence Deltalite II 12" and twin midwoofer in vertical d'Appolito layout.) The remaining space behind the screen will be stuffed with fiberglass (covered in black cloth). I think I can even cover most of the front of the subs themselves with fiberglass (6 to 8")

With the old Philips test companion:

Re: Erwin's 550 Liter LLT / 13 Hz / Maelström 18"

Q: The low pass filter is done by the AVR/pre-pro. I did read that some are using "high pass filters". Why is this and do I need it? My LLT's are tuned to 13 Hz.

Q2: what does EBS stand for?
