Question NEW BUILD - 24" Sonosub (Total first-timer)

Hi Guys (Mike in particular!)

I have 49 inches of 24" sonotube and I will be buying the 4x8 3/4" MDF tomorrow. I have just come upon my

first stinker which I'm sure you will have encountered before!

How to get 3 x 26" dia. approx. circles (1 for the base 2 for the endplates) AND 2 x 24" plus (for the kerf)

inserts out of one 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" MDF?

Have been puzzling by starting with the 3 x 26" diameter first but how to get the 2 x 24" out of the remainder?

I fired up various programs with which I was totally unfamiliar and then resorted to paper, pencil and ruler but

not seeing a solution.

Any ideas please? I am having the store make the 3 cuts so I can pack them onto the ferry in 4 strips but the

width the width

N.B. Please don't say " buy another sheet obviously" since I doubt if that will happen!

I will be using a router/1/4" bit and circle cutting jig.

Thanks in advance.

Even though a 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" MDF is really 49" x 97" it's not doable. You can get two 26" circles and two 24" circles from a sheet but you'll need a partial sheet for the third 26" circle. Ask the place where you're getting the MDF if they have a piece of MDF that's big enough for your needs.

We're all in this together!

Re: NEW BUILD - 24" Sonosub (Total first-timer)

Thanks Mike,

Something happened upstairs telling me I don't really need MDF for the base 26" just as I was reading your reply.

I could use anything strong and pretty enough for that-even clamp and glue the remnants and then circle cut it

possibly.

Anyway problem solved! Thanks again.

What about a sheet of 60x60 baltic birch ply for 4 of the holes...and then by a 24x48 piece of MDF for the last cut. much better to rout circles from BB than MDF.

Your tube is the same dimensions as mine 48.5/24" & 6"/27.5 port double flared designed for a TC2000 15'.
I got my tube 3rd hand from another shackster and it will have a Dayton 295-420 titanic 15'.
What driver will you use?
Any amp plans yet?
Can't wait to see how yours comes together!

I am glade that I am not the only first-timer here attempting a 24" sono tube. My plans are a little scaled up from yours though

24" Sono 5ft long
1 Port 8" x 40" === 14.6Hz
2 Ports 8" x 40" === 21.6Hz
TC Sounds LMS-R 15
EP2500 Amp
