LLT tempest x2 build

Ok i have decided to go for a tempest sub as outlined in the application notes by kevin Haskins.

this is the detail i have llt 340 lt or 12 cu/ft

tuned to 12 hz

no hp filter 50pc fill

port 152mm dia or 6 inch x 88.1cm long

shown as sonotube [20 inch x 72 inch] but i will build with mdf approx 24" x 24" x 42"
external.
powered by ep4000

my questions are........is the volume critical? ie if it ends up between 12-13 cu/ft will that have a bad effect?

........is a half inch port radius ok and how is the port and radius length maesured, ie outside
end to outside end. what do you think? thanks in advance

yes, it affects both sound quality and extension to have the appropriate volume. For a tempest that is probably around 385L I think.

Re: LLT tempest x2 build

a 6" port tuned to 12 hz would be 100.3 cm long. Port air speed won't be a problem.

A 13 cu.ft box with the same length port would be a 11.5 hz tuning.

A 3/4" round over would be better. A straight tube with a round over that is measured end to end is close enough for your tuning frequency.

600 watts will take the sub a bit past Xmax, you have enough power with a EP4000 for 2 subs.

i am using one channel of the 4000 ,ie 650w approx into 4ohm. a smaller amp, ep1500 costs 80p/c of the 4000 but the ep4000 allows me to add another sub later. jeff.

I like the way you think!

How big is your HT room?

4.5 x 6.7 mt room with 2 2ft cubed sealed tempests powered by an ep4000.

do you know the enclosure volume of a tempest driver?

do i need protection against over excursion or just careful use of volume control?

thanks in advance. jeff

With one channel powering the sub you'll be fine.

I forget. Contact Exodus for the information.

According to the Exodus data sheet for the Tempest-X2, it occupies 0.18 cf.
