Mighty nice of you. BTW, I'm the guy who sold them to you...
Well I am a little embarrassed: R , when I am complete I really do hope you can find the time and come by to give them a listen.

No need to be. I would be elated to see them in action. Let me know when...

Re: IXL 18.2.2 HT Build (10.0 cu ft 15hz)

Although I have not been posting I have continued to try and perfect my finish, I have come to the conclusion it will not be perfect.
I have completed my test piece and have finished the backs and bottoms of the speaker cabinets, added the feet and am now ready to finish the rest of the speaker cabinets, I will post the steps as I go along, it is a lot of work and I hope to be finished in 2 weeks.
My test piece is Krylon Hammered black on the sides (looks charcoal to me so I am switching to Tremclad Hammered Black) and Krylon satin black on the front, turned out OK, all butt joints are hidden, finish is smooth.
Had I have been smart I would have finished two at a time.

Re: IXL 18.2.2 HT Build (10.0 cu ft 15hz)

Hi Greg
very nice work
i love to work with wood as well (maybe we should get together and start a company to build these) ...just kidding
i bought two of these IXL18.2.2 but had no time to start building them, but was going to build them as per the Mach 5 site suggest)
i've been busy on building 4 16" sonotube bass traps and not finished yet.
i have a two part question; 1- could i get the dimenssions of your box plan, 2- did you use 3/4" or 1" MDF for yours?
i would use 1" thick MDF to build mine ( 2 boxes )
thanks, Marcel

Re: IXL 18.2.2 HT Build (10.0 cu ft 15hz)

The boxes are 24 X 24 X 42 and I used 3/4 inch MDF. The subs are very heavy, you may want to consider that if you plan on using one inch thick MDF.

Thanks for the compliment, I do enjoy building projects. I have been busy at work, 10 to 12 hour days but have this weekend free to finish the prep work before I paint.

Pictures to follow soon.

What were the dimensions of your port? Height and length, most importantly (I can see that your width is approximately 22.5"). I am modeling up one of these in WinISD Pro with almost exactly your box size and tuning, but planned on tweaking the shape of the enclosure slightly. I am looking at ~24" wide and ~26" tall with the depth being whatever it needs to be for a net of ~10 cubic feet. Plan on getting a piece of granite cut for the top so it looks like an end table hidden between the wall and sofa. TIA!

BTW - How does your setup sound? I am also in the process of building up a set of Statements... Have had the center done for a year and finally finding time to get to the towers. The center is INCREDIBLE by itself!

BBLV

The horizontal port is 22.50 X 21.25 and the back vertical port is 22.50 X 24, this provides a 2 inch wide slotted port.

I completed the Statement full size, mini's and center last January, they do sound incredible. The subs are for movies.
I have not finished my subs yet as I am too busy with work, still 10 to 12 hour days until mid October.

Re: IXL 18.2.2 HT Build (10.0 cu ft 15hz)

Sorry for the delay in getting this project complete.
Subs are now ready for final coat of paint, I did complete one sub with a Hammered Black finish but did not like the way I applied the spray so I sanded it off and have decided to go with a black satin pre-cat lacquer and use my HVLP sprayer to apply it.

Here are the steps I used to get the subs ready to paint
- sanded MDF with 150 grit using a quarter sheet sander
- sprayed cabinet with Krylon primer
- applied 2 thin coats of bondo sanding with 180 grit in between coats (first picture)
- applied final coat of bondo and sanded with 220 grit (second picture)
- Sprayed cabinet again with Krylon primer
- sanded cabinet with 400 grit sand paper (third picture)

I have also ordered 2 Behringer EP4000 amps that I hope are here next week, that will help kick me in the back side to get the project finished.
