Quick Question

When taking measurements from the listening position, should the mic be facing straight up or at the speakers?

Re: Quick Question

Generally straight at the speakers depends what mic you are using and were you bought it from + calibration file

You can get calibration files 45 & 90 degrees as well, but general ones are 0 degrees.

Re: Quick Question

Up or down is generally used for room acoustics. Close to, and aimed at a particular speaker is generally used for simulating anechoic response (speaker minus room acoustics). If you're going to use the 0-degree orientation, aim the mic between the speakers.

Re: Quick Question

Do you have generic one?

If so straight at the speakers

If so I would not be doing any EQ of those measurement's, but just for acoustic measurement's should be fine or waterfall graphs.

Why wouldn't you use the measuements for EQing?

Re: Quick Question

You don’t want to EQ based on a measurement from a generic calibration file, if that's what you have. You want an accurate graph for equalizing, and that requires a specific calibration file for the specific measurement mic used.

Wayne

Re: Quick Question

That’s a generic file. As you can see from the graph below, that is also posted on the page where you downloaded the file, response at the frequency extremes can vary several dB from one sample to the next.
