Using REW on my AVR

Sorry if this has been covered. I used REW years ago when I made and installed room treatments. I still have a computer with calibrated audio card and the ECM 8000 mic. The sound card is an Asus xonar hdav 1.3 and it has both 7.1 analog and HDMI outputs. I also had a BFD and it over complicated my system and I removed it.

Can I still use this setup to measure the room again? Is there any new features that I can measure each speaker independently? Can I use REW to calibrate the levels on my bed channels (7.1) ?

Not sure how you were able to use that soundcard with the ECM800, as it doesn’t appear to have a mic pre-amp... ?

Regardless, REW now has the capability of doing multichannel measurements, but it will probably require new hardware in your case.

Thanks Wayne,

I use another card as a mic preamp. So I would need a new UMIK-1 mic? I messed around with it yesterday and couldn't get the HDMI to work but I can get the analog audio to work.
So I should be able to test the room and could use a multichannel stereo mode and by turning off and on amps isolate the speakers.

Would the umik-1 give me new options to direct REW to each channel?

Re: Using REW on my AVR

The UMIK-1 has no effect on what output selection are available. If you use an HDMI output which is in multi-channel mode it should be possible to select individual HDMI channels. There is a very extensive thread on that (and USB mics like the UMIK-1) on AVS.

Re: Using REW on my AVR

I fooled around with for most of the afternoon and figured a few things out. If I use the ASIO audio option I could get it to work. I was able to get a signal and readings but there were many issues.

If I could get it to work correctly it seems that it would do all that I want. I'm not sure if the ecm 8000 will work but it is an option and I still have the calibration file. I had more success using the HDMI loop on my Asus sound card than the ATI HDMI out and ASIOforall drivers may be glitches from me trying to continue using the ecm 8000.

I'm posting this from work so my recelection may be vague.

At this time my 1st priority is to be able to use REW to set the 7 bed channels. I want to be able to send a constant full range pink noise to each channel and or a limited pink noise to see which works best.

So basically use it as a SPL meter and it's internal pink noise to dial in my system. My recent Audyssey results the levels have been inaccurate the WOW disc with REW as the SPL worked much better. I think this may be even better.

So in theory if I use SPL meter level check tone and change each channel would that be a way to balance the channels?
