REW won't wait for me to play the sweep

Hi forum--

I'm trying to use FB2K to play my sweep so that I can test my rePhase impulse+convolver. So other forum posts say to "Use acoustic timing reference" and check "Wait for timing reference". Ok, did that. But when I click Start Measuring, REW play a chirp and plays a sweep. It does not wait for to do it in FB2K. How do I stop REW from playing the sweep to let me use mine instead?

Thanks!

Perhaps the normal internal generated chirp is being played through the speakers. If so, set the sweep and chirp levels to -90dB in the measurement panel. That way the internal generated chirps will be too low to be detected. REW will then continue to wait until the external sound file is played using FB2K.

Well, the whole thing gets played - chirp, then sweep. What you propose is exactly what I did. I turned down both the chirp and sweep volume to -90dB. I already have a global bindkey to pause/start FB2K, so I could use that w/o having to pop the app forward. There was some weirdness with FB2K Playback->StopAfterCurrent setting. I would select it, it would work once, and then auto-turn off. If it wasn't selected, the sweep would loop. Turns out the fix is File->Preferences->Playback->ResetTheAboveWhenStopping. That setting needs to be un-checked. I'm going into all this detail in case someone else Googles their way here trying to do the same thing. When Google'ing this question, there's one clear answer that always comes to the top... and it's wrong. So I hope this one can get up there with it.

I found the lock-on to be very finicky. There was a very small window of time that I had to start the sweep playback in order to REW to get the sweep right. You would think it would just sit there, wait for the chirp, and go on about its business. Nope. I hope they can work on that in the future.

And in general, I've been messing around with rePhase for at least a year now. I'm really surprised the REW folks, who clearly put some serious hours in each week (and I think them!), haven't gotten around to making an externally sourced sweep a first-class feature. I guess I should go request it.

My biggest REW gripes at this time:
- No easy support for an external sweep
- Locking onto the chirp is hit/miss
- Asking me for my Umik-1 calibration file every... single... time... I launch REW. I can't believe it's that hard to remember.

Thanks jtalden,
