REW calibration setup

hi guys im new to this forum and so apologies if this has been answered somewhere else i have search but couldn't find anything close to my problem.
im running a macbook pro 2.4 intel core 2 duo with mac0sx 10.5.8
i have the latest beta5 version of REW
i have a novation nio 2/4 audio interface usb
and a digidesign mbox 2mini audio interface usb
the software loads fine and looks like a great piece of software but
i cant calibrate properly because i can get inputs in the drop down menu but cant get an output except for java audio engine for both cards and so i cant perform loopback
can anyone of you more experienced guys help me out please

Re: REW calibration setup

Leave REW set to the "default" output and input devices and set up the card you want to use in the Mac's audio/Midi settings as the default for input and output - do that before you start REW.

Re: REW calibration setup

i have done the very same thing you said several times for both cards
i know sometimes protools hardware can be reluctant to play nice with any other software due to lack of driver support but the the nio has and ive been in audio midi setup in macosx change card drivers to default in and out and when i restart its just the same its as if java sound engine just takes over the output
even when output is changed in audio midi and system preferences

Re: REW calibration setup

Java Sound Audio Engine is the Java software mixer that feeds whatever is set up as the default output in Audio/Midi settings. To see if this is an issue with the cards you are trying to use, try setting the default output as the Macbook's built-in output and see if you get output OK from there. If that works, check the output format selections in audio/Midi settings for the card you want to use, if there is a 2-channel 16-bit option select that. Also set the sample rate to 44.1kHz.

Re: REW calibration setup

ok hear goes
does the java engine take over volume control for output?
because the nio card has physical knobs to control output and input gain
but i lose control of output volume but not input gain so to me its like the
problem maybe the fact i cant select output as nio audio card only java engine
tried other suggestion no joy really feel like growing some hair so i can pull it out again

The Java Sound Audio Engine has no control over the physical knobs on the NIO or whether they function.

What is actually happening?
Do you have output from REW, but cannot control the volume, or is there no output from REW?
Can you get output successfully if you select the built-in output as the default and start REW like that?
Does the Mbox 2mini work?
I see the NIO has 4 outputs, have you checked all the outputs to see if there is any signal on them?
