recommended MIDI interface cables?

Hi. I'm getting back into this process again, but am now on a mac running OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I have a BFD 1124P and would like to drive the settings from the REW directly using a midi link.

What would people recommend for a USB-MIDI interface cable? I'm confused as some units come with a box in the middle, some don't. Some appear to allow drivers to be updated/installed, some don't.

Can anyone recommend a specific solution that works?

Thanks!!

Re: recommended MIDI interface cables?

Hi !
Edirol UM-1X ( http://www.roland.com/products/en/UM-1X/ ) works fine with Windows XP and Windows 7 pro.
About Mac OSX, you can find more information at http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/m...-1X_egfis1.pdf . I guess it will work too.
Cheers,
Bernard

Re: recommended MIDI interface cables?

If you just want a single channel MIDI I/O, for setting EQs, or using a MIDI sequencer with no more than 16 tracks and no horrendous amount of note events, this

http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Converte...9420826&sr=8-1

at Amazon has worked for me on both PC and MAC, can be thrown in my laptop case, and is CHEAP. It already has the requisite 5 pin DIN cables on it, so you don't have to invest in cables, unless you want them longer. It can be found at eBay as well, both from China and stateside.

PS: Sonnie may want to start a thread about who can 'hear' the difference in different MIDI cables.
(Joke of the day)

My twenty foot one makes a louder noise than my five foot one when dropped from exactly two meters. Ergo, I can hear a difference.

There have been problems with Midi access under OS X in the pasrt, so you may need to install the Mandolane Midi driver (Freeware): http://www.mandolane.co.uk/
