Set up before measuring?

Just wondering the process you guys go through with brand new epuipment. Say you are installing a new receiver like a Denon 2310ci and you are going to measure the room and whatnot with REW. What would you set up in the receiver as far as audio set up before you take your first measurement. Would you manually set up the speaker distances or would it not do much good to because you are going to be moving them around to find the best placement. Speaker levels? cross overs?

I guess the other option would be to run audyssey first to set all the parameters for the system and then turn audyssey off for the room correction because all speaker levels and distances would be set then.

I am considering setting my receiver back to factory default settings and starting over from scratch so wanted to know if this would be a good idea or not.

Thanks

Re: Set up before measuring?

I just replaced my receiver. I ran the auto setup and am listening for a while. When I get a little time I'll do some analysis and corrections. Frankly, I am pretty happy with the sound. I expect that after listening a while I will notice some of the larger deficiencies and I will be curious to note what I hear compared to what I measure.

Looking for me, just google my username. I have used the same one for most sites for many years.

Interesting. I would have thought people would have some thoughts on this. Maybe my question was to stupid to answer?

In bold is the easiest way. Then, after you make some changes to your room/speaker layout to get the smoothest response with Audyssey off, re-run Audyssey and re-measure with Audyssey on.

Re: Set up before measuring?

Thanks for the info. I did it that way for the first set of measurements so it sounds like I am on the right track.
