Samsung HLN567w Screen freeze with white dots

Hi,

I am hoping to get some input on what my problem might be. My T.V will operate fine anywhere from 20 minutes to a couple of hours. Somewhere within that time frame the screen will freeze. It goes to a black screen with white dots that kind of outline the last frame that was shown on screen.

I can still hear the audio when it freezes, but the picture is as described before. I can't see the menu when I try to bring it up, but I am able to change inputs by doing it blindly. I can hear the audio from the different inputs, but the screen still stays the same. If I turn the T.V off and wait a couple of minutes, I can usually turn it back on and it will work again for a little while before doing the same thing.

I've tried to do some research on this problem, but haven't been able to find a solution from someone who had the exact same problem. Most people with similar issues say it is either the Digital Board or the DMD board.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

White dots is usually the DMD itself. Never heard of it combined with freeze, but my guess is DMD board. Some freeze spray might be useful for troubleshooting.

Looking for me, just google my username. I have used the same one for most sites for many years.

Thanks for the quick reply!

It is usually the black screen with the white dots that outline the picture, but I have had it freeze on a couple occasions where the picture is still visible in a sorta black and white color. Kind of like looking at a negative of a picture. I've read about the white dots being the DMD board (or the DLP chip more specifically), but in those cases the white dots never go away. In my case the T.V will run fine for a while, which makes me question if it is actually the DMD.

I am still thinking it is the DMD board as well. I will give an update if I decide to replace it. Does anyone know someone who repairs these boards? I saw that JDElectronics will reflow the digital board, but haven't found anyone that works on the DMD board. If I can find someone, I'm thinking that might be the way to go.

Re: Samsung HLN567w Screen freeze with white dots

There are very few servicers these days that are skilled enough to repair boards at the component level, and none of the companies that do it are very reliable these days. If someone has figured out how to fix them it is most likely going to be a servicer who is a member of NESDA or ProSquad.

Good to know. Thanks! I guess I will be looking for a replacement DMD board then. Thanks again for your input!

Replacements are a gamble. Most boards are rebuilt and many come in defective. If it is possible to repair that is the best route. It could just be the DMD chip itself and not the board. When it is the white dots alone it always is.

Re: Samsung HLN567w Screen freeze with white dots

I was able to find a new DMD board and decided to replace the Digital board as well. I got them installed last night, and it seems to have fixed my problem. I've tested it out for several hours and no more freeze problem. :-)

I do have one issue now that I never noticed before. The top right corner of the screen is a little darker than the rest. Like a shadow. I tried to research the problem, but could only find other models that had mirror adjustments you could do by turning screws. As far as I know, my HLN567w does not have that kind of adjustment.

Any idea on what the issue could be?

I figured it out. A piece of junk got into the light tunnel. I removed it and shot some compressed air through it to clean it out. Replaced it and everything is as good as new now!

Re: Samsung HLN567w Screen freeze with white dots

Quick question. If I have pictures of all my service menu settings, is it safe to do an eeprom reset? Since I have replaced the Digital, Analog and DMD board I would like to go back to factory settings.

I've noticed lines in the background. It isn't that noticeable and can really only be seen when the screen has lite colors like white or lite blue Ect...

I don't know where a reset will leave you. I would set each setting from where you are.
