Re: CSS SDX 10 Sealed Project with BASH300 amp

I've started this now, cut all the panels, glued most together. I'm using pl premium fastgrip, and was wondering if that is enough to seal it, or should I go around with Alex white or something? I'm bracing. It with 3/4 Mdf sticks (3/4 squared) along the inside edges... is that ok? Next step ifter all this will be putting in the leftover eggcrate foam that I have. Do you guys like white grill cloth or black grill cloth for a semigloss white subwoofer?

Re: CSS SDX 10 Sealed Project with BASH300 amp

Here are some pics of how it was constructed (so far)

My Dad did all the measuring and 'compassing'. I am terrible with measurements.

My Dad's circle method draw an x corner to corner, then measure radius, use compass

Clamp with corner clamps, clamps, frame clamps (these are great)

Cut the circle with a jigsaw (thanks Dad, my circles SUCK), screw in thingamajiggie screws

Brace it with 3/4 squared runners, add triangles because triangles are cool...

Caulk with GE silicone 2 white (so you can see it) to seal it up (overkill)

Foaminate with eggcrate foam (the acoustic stuff)

Assemble and prepare for the miserable sand a billion times part

I take issue with just ONE part of your post..... there is no such thing as overkill

I just took re-sealed the bass cabinets in my Infinity RS-II's (built in the 80's) and I used 1.5 tubes of titebond adhesive per section just so I never wondered what if

I did the same with the DIYSoundGroup Cube 15 box... CNC Routed for a perfect fit.... still put glue over all the places air "might" escape (port tubes, bracing) just because lol.....

Better to be sealed than sorry lol
As long as it doesn't fart... If it does, it better be a low one, not a high pitched one ha

Re: CSS SDX 10 Sealed Project with BASH300 amp

I sanded the living out of it, and have multiple coats of primer sanded to a perfect finish. I am TERRIFIED of applying high gloss paint... Any suggestions? I'm going for white... my primer coating is almost perfect, should I skip the paint and just keep the primer on? Need help any tips for white paint? High gloss enamel with a foam roller?

If it was me (dont have much DIY skills) I'd look to see what an auto body shop would cost you to have it finished the way you want, especially if you've done all the prep work and sanding and all they have to do is shoot it with their paint gun.

I can verify that Valspar gloss latex enamel does not work over top of Zinnser BIN.

Bad, had to sand it down to the primer. It could actually be peeled off, hence the 'latex'.

Not sure what the plan is now

I'm ok with a satin finish I suppose. Maybe Benjamin Moore lol

Ended up sanding it all down again, redid primer, coated with rustoleum mist, pearl.

Finally happy :-)

The finished product

Thank goodness my Dad can cut a circle with a jigsaw, I suck at it. grille is made of hobby board, and some speaker cloth stapled to the back. I used a couple of long pieces of felt tac to make sure the fit was TIGHT... can barely take it off the driver. No rattle at all.
