Maelstrom-x 21" 15cu Sealed Build!

And with these photos I officially start my build thread!

You really don't understand how big this woofer is, till you see it in person. It's so big, it's almost perverted.

I've got two other projects going on right now, I'm going to push one off, but I have to finish the second project as a small wad of cash is counting on me finishing this on time. I hope to be cutting wood for the Maelstrom late tonight!

Re: Maelstrom-x 21" 15cu Sealed Build!

But why build it sealed when you can just cut a 10" hole and mount a port in there of 25"

on my modeling you'd get 124db at 20hz

Couldn't he get that result with a sealed as long as he has enough power to do it?

Not in modeling. He might acheive it with room gain though. Still sealed requires more dampening and bracing than ported and at that size porting is a synch.

Re: Maelstrom-x 21" 15cu Sealed Build!

awesome. i don't like the front gasket though! I remember how long I flipped cuz I thought my 15" L7 was so big, then my IB3 18".... I can't wait for mine!

port it. No, you can't get the same output with the same power from a sealed box as a ported box. A ported box uses the back 1/2 of the driver to double the output at tuning.

15 cu ft seems a little big. 9 or 10cu ft sealed would be perfectly fine and the size I would use with high power. Are you using a bridged EP2500 on it?

Yes, I'll be using my EP2500 on it (sorry, I forgot to put that at the beginning of the thread).

Keven recommended 12 cu ft, but I have space for 15cu, so I figured I'd just build it a little larger.

Any advantages of building it slightly smaller?

Unfortunately, I've not had time to cut any wood yet. It's killing me having this beast here, but have other family commitments.

Since I'm on vacation this week for my birthday, I'll have plenty of time to get it built up and done!
