So not to happy with the way the spray paint is going. Think i am going to go get some rollers and roll it on and sand it down. maybe this will give me the smooth finish i am looking for

From a distance it looks great.
Up close, you can see the sanding marks, irregularities, and blemishes. I think to remove everything that ends up easily visible, will take another weeks worth of sanding, filling, and priming.

Re: Sealed TC Sounds LMS Ultra 5400 18" NOOB STYLE!!

That was all of the brush marks from the primer that was visible. i noticed when i was sanding this morning that it was taking alot of the primer off of the wood to get everything smooth. and i didn't want to take it all off, so i sanded alot without going all the way to the wood. but still didn't seem good enough. So thats why i mentioned earlier several coats would be best.

I went to lowe's and got A qt of gloss black from valspar . I was using Gloss black spray paint from rustoleum. Also decided to try a 3/16" nap roller.

When i got home i started spreading this stuff out and noticed right off the bat that it definately was not going to be a mirrored finish. So a few choice words were muttered, and i went all over the box with it. figured i would just let it dry for a day and sand it down. To my suprise, this thing looks great with a textured finish. Its not the finish i had in mind, or even considered when i started but I like this alot.

It had started raining outside so i brought it in my garage to finish. Took some pics and the flash kinda gives it a grey color.

so after lots of time and effort........and paint, here is what i ended up with. It is dry to the touch in these pics. I applied several light coats to try and get rid of any uneven areas that was seen in the glossy pics. I am happy with it, think it turned out pretty good, now its time for bed

I agree. I like that "Matte" finish. It's not "Gloss" and it's not "Truck Bed", it's in the middle "Matte".
Nice work.

That looks really good.

For a first time build I have a hard time remembering anyone doing such a good job in such a short amount of time.

You don't need anything heavier.
