Dayton Audio RSS315HF-4 question...

I have a Dayton Audio RSS315HF-4 ohm 12" subwoofer. I am planning to use it with the Dayton 250-watt subwoofer plate amplifier. The reason is that I am planning to use it with a stereo system (i.e. no LFE output) and I need to connect the subwoofer through the subwoofer amplifier's speaker input/outputs. Their 500-watt amplifer does not have the speaker input/outputs.

The question is, will the 250-watt amplifier be enough to drive the RSS315HF-4. Using Bass Box Pro, it appears that the driver should reach an output level of about 112 dB. I also noted that the driver maximum input is rated for 400 watts. At 400 watts, the Xmax will be exceeded below 25-Hz in a 18" cube sealed cabinet . Do I really need to get the 500-watt amplifier? Ihave seen other postings where the owners report that the 250-watt amp clips easily driving the subwoofer.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Dayton Audio RSS315HF-4 question...

The Dayton 250-watt subwoofer plate amplifier has a HPF at around 18 hz, modeling with WinISD shows 109 db at 80 hz and 103 db at 30 hz. With 400 watts the Xmax is barely exceeded so that's a non issue. You'd be better off finding a 500 watt amp that has the speaker input/outputs that you need.
