Re: Calibrated Mic (XLR) and Pre / Soundcard vs USB mic

Just the Umik-1, I have no comparison but thought I might have gotten more out of going the other route, buyers remorse I guess.

Re: Calibrated Mic (XLR) and Pre / Soundcard vs USB mic

I would say satisfied but not "very happy" for my uses which go beyond just measuring room response. After working with it I'm thinking that the separate preamp/mic approach might have been better,...

Re: Calibrated Mic (XLR) and Pre / Soundcard vs USB mic

The one difference I can offer since I bought a Umik-1 USB mic thinking that it would make my life easier and be cheaper initially is that it limits you to about 12 to 15 feet of cable from your...

Re: Ported vs Passive radiators

I should also mention that I have plans to build either a single sub or dual subs for my 2 channel system that currently uses the Sunfire and my initial direction would be to do a passive sealed...

Re: Ported vs Passive radiators

It does indeed have the capability to play VERY loud, which is not how I use it, I can't say that the sound quality is superb since I don't currently have a better comparison, it's the best sounding...

Re: Ported vs Passive radiators

I have a Sunfire subwoofer that is a 13" cube with a PR and it sounds great, but it's a highly engineered $2000 sub, I'm sure part of the design requirement was small size as well as high output. I...

Re: UMIK-1 SPL reading in silent room

My initial reaction was the same as yours JohanWa but I am new to doing this kind of testing. My results are similar and show a somewhat different curve, but the harmonic peaks are still present:

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

phazer99,

Yes the whole system is one of the things I want to measure although I would think that using the soundcard cal file would just help to eliminate the computer from the picture, if...

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

monomer, thanks for the reply, I grabbed the new file.

4 decimal places on the sensitivity seems a bit over done like they should have rounded it but I'm nitpicking.

I'm just starting to learn...

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

I've been struggling getting a decent sound card calibration generated and finally did, hopefully if I rerun the procedure it will be repeatable. So I started working with my UMIK-1 (Ser#70000425)...

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

I worked 9 years in Quality Control at my previous company, gauge verification/calibration was an important part of our responsibilities and some instruments are less sensitive to drift than others,...

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

Just received my mic, it's serial #7000425 and the cal file is similar to other recent ones:

As you can see I'm in the same boat as everyone else. It will be interesting to see what...

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

I tried to check my order status on the miniDSP site and can't log into my account at the moment, it keeps telling me I don't have one or wrong username/password, hopefully this is just a "Holiday"...

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

Hopefully this is just a glitch in the files themselves and not something that happened when they were measured, although that's probably a long shot. If the actual measurements were skewed at...

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

Well, I ordered a UMIK-1 yesterday and it shipped today, at least today my time which is Eastern time in the US, or tomorrow morning if you're on Hong Kong time. Reading back to the earlier posts in...

Re: Harman Kardon AVR7550HD 7.2 with BOSE

Hey Danny,

Looking at the manual for your receiver on line you have two banks of speaker binding posts, front and rear L&R on the left bank and center and back rear L&R on the right bank, you have...

Re: MiniDSP UMIK-1 Microphone

FYI USB 2.0 spec calls for a max 5 meter cable length due to round trip signal timing limitations, a longer cable may time out on you, why they make cables that do not conform to the spec is any...

Re: UMM-6 USB Measurement Microphone---low levels???

I need to buy a mic and the USB type is attractive, you would think that since Cross-Spectrum calibrates the UMM-6 that it would have similar characteristics to the EMM-6. Maybe it has more to do...

Post padding first test build using 100% poly fill, this one sounds just right, the previous attempts sounded a bit hollow:).
