Re: Subwoofer driver buy-in poll

Attached are the T/S parameters and Klippel data from the review. I'm not an expert in copyright law so if the mods need to take it down, I respect that.

The editorialize a bit, obviously with an...

Re: Subwoofer driver buy-in poll

The Acoupower 15" was measured in Voice Coil magazine a while back including Klippel data. I can dig it up and post it (the Klippel data), if there is interest, or maybe Carlos has the reprint...

Re: Respons graphs for FW12.1

Looks good! However, I think that your crossover isn't doing what you think it is. It looks more like a 55-60 Hz low pass. You might measure your gear just to be sure or show the measurements sans...

Re: Subwoofer Tests - Fall 2007

I would strongly recommend against using Robot underground for reconing your Tumult. I've met Patrick before and he seems like a nice guy and everything. However, he's using the wrong coil design. ...

Re: Subwoofer Tests - Fall 2007

WillyD,

Actually, that is purely coincidental. Unibox doesn't have a significant amount of nonlinear modeling capability and even if it did you'd need more information than just small signal...

Re: Subwoofer Tests - Fall 2007

Hi Ilkka,

You didn't happen to measure the amplifier output voltage during the distortion test sweeps, did you? While you are already doing a massive amount of work, this would help settle the...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Mark, thanks for the voice of reason. I got this off on a tangent and is not in the spirit of all of the good stuff going on on this forum.

I was just trying to shed some light on some of the...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

ssabripo,

I guess the point is a bit moot because neither driver is available any longer. I currently have neither a brahma or avalanche to cut apart and show you.

However, if you have them...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

The the extent that XBL^2 isn't that well suited for this sort of application then yes. For small box subwoofers you need high BL, high Mms and high power handling and this isn't a great fit for...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

I did mention on the other thread that I did work for Adire and don't mind you mentioning it. Of course I haven't worked there is a couple of years but still am working the the speaker business at...

Re: Welcome to the Fi Audio HT Forum

Hi Scott,

It's cool to see you over in the DIY HT side of things. Now that I have a house, I'll have to hit you up for some of those new IB 18's with the 2 layer coil.

Not to hijack this...

FYI, Peerless is now made in China in Tymphany's Panyu facility.

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

A few comments:

Ilkka is right on the money about the TC woofers having a more linear compliance (because of their 10" spiders with deep rolls) and this having an effect on the distortion...

Re: creative sounds customer service A+ (so far)

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry to get a bit defensive there, no offense taken. Thanks for the welcome.

I love this stuff and look forward to more rousing discussion on subs and DIY.

Re: creative sounds customer service A+ (so far)

Hi guys,

I have nothing to hide here and don't really appreciate the tone of the comments. I've been a lurker on this forum for quite a long time and also on AVS, PE, Madisound, Diyaudio,...

Re: creative sounds customer service A+ (so far)

It sounds like CSS is taking care of this and so there is no concern there.

This conversation is all conjecture anyway.

Still, as I recall, Ilkka broke at least one of those TC woofer in...

Re: creative sounds customer service A+ (so far)

Well, without getting too in-depth, I'm glad this topic came up and would strongly recommend against doing that. As I mentioned, running one coil open doubles the Qes (basically doubling Qts),...

Re: creative sounds customer service A+ (so far)

I'd definitely recommend not running the sub with just one coil driven. The Qes doubles (basically doubling Qts) messing up the alignment and you have <1/2 of the power handling. If you plug the...

Re: creative sounds customer service A+ (so far)

How loud / long were you playing the LFE demos when it gave out?

When you pull the woofer out of the enclosure, you should smell the pole vent and see if it smells like burned electronics. Also,...
