Re: New CSS 18 in action

I've been picked as a "beta" tester for the new 18, and with my experience using subwoofers, including some large horn based ones, and my thorough use of an LLT SDX15, i feel as though i was a good...

Re: How many dBs is considered loud for HT bass?

expect very good sound quality, very good extension, and a reasonable sized box.

You've got a very decent driver there.

Re: Hello all! advice needed for sub build

I knew he would mike.

You give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day, then be hungry again.

OR

Teach the man to fish, so he can get addicted to it, and give up the rest of his life. lol. :D

Re: Hello all! advice needed for sub build

Well, to put it into perspective for you, the UXL driver is made by the same people as the IXL but is almost twice the price for a reason. Low distortion numbers. Also, you will NOT need a HPF with...

Re: Hello all! advice needed for sub build

Didn't mean to hijack this,

It just seems that if you can afford one really good part and make do with what you have, then the upgrade route looks best from the UXL. The 350w amp you have will...

Re: Hello all! advice needed for sub build

You're correct in that if he stays with this forever the IXL 15 is the better choice, but we all know that no one stops building subs after they get the bug. The UXL 18 allows future proofing, adding...

Re: Hello all! advice needed for sub build

Guys... He already has a decent amp, We should be telling him to look at the mach 5 UXL driver.

This will have lower distortion, and work very well in 6-8 cubes. Have more headroom for future use,...

Re: How many dBs is considered loud for HT bass?

This combo that you are building is a very good design. Its a balance of extension vs box size, vs output.
I would be very happy with this.

Re: How much would you pay?

I have a feeling this guy may have gotten his hands on some decent buyout drivers. You'll need some decent xmax to hit 98db with a 12.

I have a feeling he might be using these. or something...

Re: Trying to do a budget home stereo sub setup.

I don't know why people don't suggest this design to people who are looking to get great output, in a small footprint.

More output than...

Re: mutli driver subs and WinISD

multiples or not, 5-6mm xmax is not a subwoofer.

With winisd when you select the number of drivers, it goes from there, if they aren't raising the baseline sensitivity then chances are that your...

Re: How 'bout an Aura MR-18.4 in an LLT?

The reason you hear very little about them is cost,
They're in the same price range as an LMS ultra in most cases.
Most people won't take the risk for that coin.

These are very high quality...

Re: Sealed build - Help me design my "reference" sub

I think you're making the right decision.

even 1:1 the drivers are very close to each other. save costs, get a better system down the road overall, and have more bass than your reference system...

Re: New to Tapped Horns Help with design

use what you've got, the new driver you posted has 5mm xmax, you have 12. And roughly identical surface area. You've also got a basic design to work with, an can modify vs doing this all on your own....

Re: Sealed build - Help me design my "reference" sub

a 21" cube after accounting for bracing/material thickness should net you the 3 cubes you're looking for, unless you're brace happy, at which point i'd go for a 22" cube.

I think that two of the...

Re: Sealed build - Help me design my "reference" sub

at 3 cubes each, they perform so close that they are within 1db after 50hz and under they are within .5db of each other.

Both in sealed and vented 3 cube boxes.

Re: Single box: Pros and Cons of using 2 15” vs 1 18” driver in a sealed design?

I've been in both situations, But generally speaking the 15" driver or 18" driver tends to be more expensive than the 12's or 15's and at that point its no longer apples to apples. They usually spend...
