Re: refurbished receivers

I suspect that it's a Roku and/or Roku specific Netflix client issue because nothing else creates a similar problem but once your screen goes lavender you either have to reset the Roku box or change...

Re: refurbished receivers

I like Onkyo receivers but in my opinion it's almost a wash. I don't recall if the Denon has preouts but otherwise they're neck and neck.

There are some Roku/Netflix in DD+5.1/Onkyo receiver...

Re: refurbished receivers

About the only other thing that you can do is setup alerts on some of the deal sites and hope that a sale happens within your time frame.

Re: refurbished receivers

I bought my 606 and 707 from A4L and they've been perfect. My 906 and 809 were bought new. My feeling is that if I can get it new from an authorized dealer for no more than $100 more then I'd buy...

Re: What receiver brands do you own?

4 Onkyos, 3 of them in use plus an older 606 that I keep as a spare.
2 Pioneers that were replaced by the Onkyos and now live in my storage shed.

Re: Choice between these two?

6ohm shouldn't be a problem for most receivers so you're good to go there. Personally I'm not a fan of non-Elite Pioneers (I've owned two) because of their anemic real world power output.

Re: Choice between these two?

The problem that you may run into is that HTIB system makers often include speakers with weird impedance levels and then optimize the receiver for the included speakers. I don't know if that effects...

Re: Onkyo NR709

I'll second this. I was shocked when I bought a refurbished 90w Onkyo 606 and it flat out blew the doors off my old "110w" Pioneer. I've been an Onkyo receiver fan ever since.

Re: Onkyo NR709

I like Onkyo receivers a lot (I own 4 - 606, 906, 707, and 809) but they generate a ton of heat and have to be kept cool and that means don't stack anything on top and leave room around and at least...

Re: Too AMP or not tis the question

15" may be slight overkill but I like overkill with a subwoofer and most good quality 12" subs sold in box stores (Velodyne etc) that are capable of properly pressurizing a 5000 cubic foot room are...

Re: Too AMP or not tis the question

The size of the room dictates the size of the subwoofer. Hsu and eD make cheaper 15" subs but the Rythmik has a great reputation for both output levels and sound quality.

Since manual EQing seems...

Re: Too AMP or not tis the question

This just reminded me of something. Two or three years ago I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out why my BA VR3 speakers and SVS PB12 Plus/2 sub sounded muted like a blanket had been thrown...

Re: Too AMP or not tis the question

I didn't see anything about you replacing the subwoofer. That would be the first thing I'd put money into. I think adding something like a Rythmik FV15 would make more difference than anything else...

Re: Onkyo TX-SR606 HDMI Out Issue

Your HDMI board may be going out. If so you can sometimes find a rebuilt board on ebay or I've read you can DIY with same or better parts (capacitors) if you're good with a soldering iron. There is a...

Re: Too AMP or not tis the question

You could go with an Onkyo TX-NR709 and use it as a pre/pro if you decide to add an amp later. Your old 606 will make you a fine bedroom receiver so it won't go to waste. I'm mostly using my 809 as a...

Re: Onkyo 606

Interesting. How about a powered splitter? I used to use one to let me route around the receiver when I wanted to watch sports while listing to music.

Re: Is the Oppo 93 'overkill'

I own a BDP-93 and if I had to do it over again I'd save the $500 and just use my PS3. The PS3 is just about as good at Blu-Ray playback, almost as good at upscaling DVDs (so is my latest receiver),...

Re: Onkyo 606

I don't see why you couldn't use a HDMI splitter and send one signal to the receiver for audio and the other to the TV but I haven't tried a splitter for 3D. The other option is to use optical and do...

Re: Bookshelves with a cut around 3.5K and some upper bass punch

I agree with getting the best speaker that you can and then EQing it if you need to. You might also find that it's a room reflection.

Re: Narrowing down speaker selection

5.1 is fine for most videos and with a $500 budget you're really compromising quality for those two extra channels. Doing 7.1 right also requires that you have several feet between your seating...

Re: Is it worth getting a 2-sub output receiver?

My purpose was to make sure that the OP understood that on most receivers the two jacks are basically an internal y-connector and that if he wants the receiver to set separate levels, distance, and...

Re: Is it worth getting a 2-sub output receiver?

I think there have been some incorrect assumptions here. It's not until you get into the Audyssey XT32 systems with Sub EQ HT (http://www.audyssey.com/audio-technology/sub-eq-ht) that the two subs...

Re: has anyone EQed a buttkicker before????

I would think that all that you would want to do is set a crossover point and then set the "shake level" to approximate what you're not getting from the subwoofer. That's the main reason for having a...

Re: Looking to replace my Klipsch 2.1 PC speakers

If you're handy with electronics you may be able to fix your old speakers. I've seen wiring diagrams and repair instructions on the web for the 5.1 Ultra but I don't have time to look right now.

Re: Looking to replace my Klipsch 2.1 PC speakers

I own the E41b and they are seriously great speakers -especially for desktop use. But keep in mind two things, 1st they're small with tiny (but great!) drivers and won't fill a large (or medium)...
