Re: LMS-5400 buy-in

Hmm, why cross mains with dual 12" woofers at 80hz if you feel the sub benefits from a lower crossover?

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Can you reference this, cause I recall people saying such things but basing it off of "thumping the cone with their finger" and "it sure didn't sound like 16hz Fs" :sarcastic: It would seem to meet...

Excellent. How's the weather by you lately? It's early October and everyday is still 80-90 degrees here....kinda weird.

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Ermm, again, TC2k, 2000 watts, 115db sweep down to 10hz outdoors 2m groundplane, no highpass filter, and no bottoming. That's just one design too.

I'm doing no such thing. You guys are telling...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

If you are absolutely certain, and other owners are as well, then there is something amiss with this driver. There are quite a few of us LLT owners out there, and we use larger enclosures with low...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Absolutely.

But I still say he shouldn't have to tune at 16hz with a 16hz highpass - wasted potential.

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Even if we assume the Crown amp has infinite power capabilities, I still look back to the TC2k tested outdoors at 2m with 2000 watts on a 115db sweep down to 10hz with no highpass and no bottoming or...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

What's with all this concern over bottoming the LMS 18 below 20hz.....especially in such a small enclosure? As LLT owners have been showing for some time now - most with only 15" drivers - you'd...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

What's both great and sad about this thread is that we wouldn't even be able to have this conversation if Ilkka didn't go out and take some measurements. If manufacturers can talk up their products...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Ilkkas measurements of two TC2k drivers show moderate inconsistencies - I have no reason not to believe your RS meter measurement as the truth.

Not any lower than yours, no.

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

The Avalanche 18 as compared to a Tumult 15 has a flatter top end, more displacement, and one would have to imagine less distortion at a given output level due to less travel being needed. Power...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Out of curiousity, what direction has been misleading in this thread? The fact that companies don't share any REAL data is what creates these types of situations, and we are all in debt to Ilkka for...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

That measurement was with an 80hz crossover, I only switched to 60hz after moving to this new place. FR of the VR3s is the purple line.

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

That's only the sub. If there were a lack of punch due to a dip in FR in the upper bass range caused by the rolloff of the sub above the crossover frequency as you mentioned in your previous post,...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

If you were in the states I would probably be up for it, but I wouldn't want to take the risk of one getting damaged (or lost) sending it overseas - you can't really go out and buy a replacement.

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

It would be nice to see an Avalanche 18 measured because some owners are saying there isn't enough punch in the higher frequencies. I have to think that be because it is clean near the top, and they...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Ilkka, I should have been more specific. I wasn't referring to the higher frequency distortion, but the actual FR. In the free air measurements, the dropoff at 100hz is less than it is when the...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Ilkka, the free air measurements of the two TC2k drivers appear to be better behaved at the top end as compared to the measurements while in an enclosure. Why is that?

According to Dan Wiggins...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Ilkka, perhaps a silly question, but could you hear any sonic differences between the drivers just from testing them in free air with a FR sweep? When it comes to real material, I wonder if the...

Re: LMS-5400 / RL-p18" buy-in

Well you wouldn't really want to use a 10" port because the length would be such that the port resonance would probably be audible. You could use a lower crossover, but then you are kind of wasting...
