Re: Beef up my 5.1 HT or go 7.1

I agree with Tony. We have used a highly similar setup for about eight months now, and it works great.

Re: New Surrounds build

That looks good to me either way, great job! The crossover area and match between drivers looks great. The wall mounting looks ever so slightly smoother on the top end, while the stand mounted looks...

Re: Monitor Audio Sub - Replace Driver

What you describe is that the glue joint between the spider and frame has come apart. There should be no problems getting this covered under warranty, so long as the purchase date was less than five...

Re: Monitor Audio Sub - Replace Driver

How long have you had that Radius360? The woofer is covered for five years, the amplifier for two years. Why not get it repaired, if it's under warranty? Also, have you tested the woofer...

Re: My Zaph ZD3C Center Channel Project

Very nice, Usil! The new speaker looks great, as does your room. Your center speaker looks higher quality than most of the commercial units I work on. I really like the built-in alcove for the TV and...

Re: when is a port too big?

Ok, that makes sense. But then won't your port output be exiting at the other side of the universe, from a white hole? Seems like it would be hard to keep that in phase with the woofer output, and...

Re: inefficiency..spl driver/powerhandling

Actually, Vd only determines the maximum SPL at a given frequency, for a given box. Actual SPL is determined by frequency, power input, and the cabinet design. That is, unless by Vd you are speaking...

Re: when is a port too big?

How do you make a port with negative length?

Re: absolute ground 0 in Hz

Oh absolutely. This is the first time I have listened to them in in a long time. :) I have never listened to them since moving into my current house with my first nice surround and subwoofer setup....

Re: absolute ground 0 in Hz

Ok, finally found the discs and cases out in my garage. :) The 1/4Hz material is on both Sonic Booms 2 and Sonic Booms 3, both pertaining to Space Shuttle launches.

On SB2 (Bainbridge BCD 6285,...

Re: 15" Tempest X in a 80 litre sealed box???

No, this wouldn't work either. A passive radiator enclosure is essentially a vented box, except with the radiators replacing the vents. Vented boxes are larger than sealed, for a given driver....

Re: The Emerald Titan build thread.

Yes, it's rare that I see a commercial unit with the robust construction seen in even the lowliest DIY builds. And I work with many units that are several thousands of dollars retail. Now, most of...

Re: Subwoofer test

You should still be able to get full power from the pro-amplifier with a lowered gain. If you lower the gain by 15dB on a separate amplifier, that adjustment will be cancelled out by increasing the...

Re: 15" Tempest X in a 80 litre sealed box???

Oh I know what you mean! My box is about 372 liters external size, and that's for one Tempest-X !

The major negatives are the 2dB bump in response centered around 58Hz and degraded transient...

Re: Subwoofer test

That seems odd to me. Aren't pro amps typically used with more efficient speakers than most home speakers, often times by 10dB or more? Do pro style preamps have a lot finer range of adjustment which...

Re: Ported EBS build - pics

I'd second this. Any glue or caulk will create problems when you want to remove the driver. In many cases, drivers get fairly well stuck just using a foam or rubber type gasket. Case in point, my...

Re: The Emerald Titan build thread.

Thanks. I had the pipe insulation lying around - don't know for what, it wasn't pipes. :) The caulking of my glue blocks really is overkill, since the entire length of the blocks are glued to their...

Re: Extreme noob question

No, the 876 doesn't offer any way to control it's built-in equalizers from outboard software. You don't need an equalizer to use REW.

Re: 15" Tempest X in a 80 litre sealed box???

I assume these are the first run of Tempest-X drivers, meaning you already have them? If so, you may want to reconsider the plan. 80 liters per woofer is far smaller than ideal for a sealed box using...

Re: Subwoofer test

What makes you think you can't use 0.0dB as a reference because you're using separate front amplifiers? Calibration, whether done automatically or manually, will take into account the different gain...

Re: The Emerald Titan build thread.

So I finally got around to removing the driver and snapping a few pictures of the revised insides. I have been too busy enjoying it, plus I take speakers apart all day at work - don't tend to feel...

Re: Ported EBS build - pics

Well, one reason might be that you already have your heavy woofer mounted and you don't feel like taking it out just to address a non-problem. :)

However, your points are well taken. :T No reason...

Re: Ported EBS build - pics

The finished product looks awesome! Of course, I'm biased, but it still would look great in a different color. :)

Mike,

You might be surprised just how many commercial subwoofers of all types...

Re: 13.8 cubic foot IXL 18.2.2 build.

Very impressive, and very huge! I do like green, but not that exact shade, and so I can see red looking better on the ports - plus it matches the woofer. :T So the pipe came in that color? I don't...
