Still Crazy about Physical Media after All These Years

My partner was out of town last night, and I was in a bad place. I listened until the sun came up, and then I wrote this...

Re: Which DVD Ripping Software Is The Best?

A reminder to everyone: As silly as it may sound to HT enthusiasts looking to setup a Media Server with content that they've legally licensed, cracking copy protection is still illegal according to...

Re: Monoprice speakers

Hopefully a member who has purchased these can chime in, but yes, the price to performance ratio, for in-walls, seems to be great.

Now, in-walls simply can't outperform similarly engineered...

Re: HSU VTF-15H

Yes, "prettier" is completely subjective. The HSU has more finish options, including options more commonly considered "high-end".

But yes, even in my review of the SVS, I noted that I would stick...

Re: HSU VTF-15H

Don't forget those shipping costs...

A more balanced, but not fair, fight (from a price-perspective) would be the SVS PB12-NSD

HSU VTF-15H = $1018 Shipped
SVS PB12-NSD = $769 Shipped
SVS...

Welcome. There's a lot to learn in that song; maybe we should all take notes.

Re: side speaker placement in 5.1

You might try moving them a little behind ear-level, closer to that 110 measurement (approximate this by scooting your chairs up). Our ears become less precise w/re: to directionality as sound moves...

Re: side speaker placement in 5.1

Your setup looks good. If it sounds good, I wouldn't mess with it.

Ps. Love the cinderblock; speaker stand ever made.

Re: Front Speaker crossover

If you are using Audyssey, then I'd recommend this article: http://www.audyssey.com/blog/2009/05/small-vs-large/

"Do you have a subwoofer in your system? Great. Then your speakers are small....

Re: Black Widow PFG - the Discussion - Black Widow

Looks great. Did you just paint directly on the drywall/wallboard? Any sanding needed to take out wall texture?

What about something like the audioengine w1 (soon to be replaced with the w3).

Re: Yambeka Audio 7.0 Speaker System Review

I'd stretch the budget a bit for the elemental designs a2-250, but if you must stay under budget, the Dayton sub-120 is a good "a cheap as you want to get" solution, while the Bic f12 is a little...

Re: Help with Screen Size

I don't recall seeing a freq plot on the Dayton, but my guess is, just louder. Odds are the Freq response drops off pretty quickly and 2x0 is still 0. I go for one quality sub over 2 lesser subs, but...

On the sub, what's your budget? Do you have an AVR w/ bass management?

Re: BIC FH6-LCR vs FH65B

They should have more lowend, but that wouldnt really help you if you have a subwoofer.

Re: Yambeka Audio 7.0 Speaker System Review

I don't know for sure, but If the website is down, I'd say the company probably went with it.

If you're looking for low cost options, pioneer speakers are probably the best bang for your buck...

Re: How to Hook up Tv, Receiver, Sound bar , Playstation, Xbox and Dvd player properly?

Both your receiver and soundbar seem to be independently powered. You should get the optical switch, hook it directly to the soundbar, and leave the AVR out of the setup entirely.

Re: Help with Screen Size

I'll let the projector guys weigh in on your video, but on the audio side, I'd say you'll definitely want a subwoofer. A big screen is great, but without big sound to match it, you may fall short of...

Re: Hooking my two computers up to my sony ss370

What do you mean by "fight each other"? I've never tried this setup, but by my estimation, as long as your only running sound from one at a time, you should be fine. Are there impedance problems...

Re: How to Hook up Tv, Receiver, Sound bar , Playstation, Xbox and Dvd player properly?

What's the model of your AVR and Soundbar? I don't think you'll use both.

Re: Hooking my two computers up to my sony ss370

monoprice, you just need a 3.5/RCA cable to split the signal in between your two computers.. I'd run a short RCA y-cable at the sony for each of the right and left inputs, and then run a longer 3.5mm...

Re: Hooking my two computers up to my sony ss370

You need this cable, or similar:http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=665&seq=1&format=2

Connect it to the Audio In Red/White RCA inputs.

Re: BK Monolith - where's the sub bass?

So it's not a connection problem. By frequency contour, are you referring to the sub's internal crossover, and you've set it to bypass? In your AVR, you've set subwoofer to "yes" or similar? You...
