Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

If you're referring to amplifiers, I use a plate amp for each sub that has a hi-pass filter at 15 hz.

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

Hi Jezza and welcome!

I love them, they take a beating constantly and keep on going. The only thing I would do differently is not use the egg crate foam as it has been said it has no effect. Live...

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

I'm long overdue for a lot of stuff. Room treatments, REW, etc. Bills and a lack of time are my biggest problems. I'll get there eventually!

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

They were always port up. Base plates at both ends was a common thing when sonotubes first became popular. Those are about 10 years old.

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

Finally updated the seating. Bought some Palliser reclining couches for the sides and a rocker/recliner love seat for the back. So glad to finally get rid of those futons!

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

Yes we did. The Samsung is plenty big enough for the seating distance, doesn't give off heat like a projector and I read somewhere the lamp is supposed to last 20,000 hours. We absolutely love it!

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

You must remember my HT is on a cement floor in the basement. It takes some serious "woofage" to get the tactile effect. The Shiva tubes sounded fantastic when they were upstaits in the livingroom....

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

The best way to describe 4 active subs in a HT environment is "effortless". I had read about that term and didn't know what it meant until I experienced it. No straining, just effortless low end...

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

As for the internal bracing dimensions, I'll be home from work on Aug. 5th. I'll be off work for 3 weeks and we'll get the information that you'll need. :T

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

The cabinet dimensions are external measurements, the MDF I used was 3/4 inch material. Draw the cabinet on a piece of paper and mark the appropriate dimensions, it makes it easier to visualize.

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

I'm not sure what a standard size piano measures, but mine is 56 inches wide. My subs may look imposing because they are both against the piano. My room is 15' x 26', but there is a hallway on the...

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

In a room that size I would go with ported. You will get more low end output with ported over sealed.

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

The box size can be made smaller. 8 cubic feet tuned to 18 hz with a 6 inch diameter port 25 inches long would work. The box would be 30% smaller and you would give up 3db of output in the 16hz to...

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

No such a thing. We all have to learn sometime! Here's a simplified explanation. If you play test tones from 80 hz down to 20 hz, and they are all the same loudness, a graph would show a straight...

Re: Mach 5 Audio IXL-18.4 Build

I never got around to doing measurements even though I bought a BFD, downloaded REW and purchased a proper sound card. Too much going on with a daughter having twins, work, and home life. But I'll...
