Speaker cables, large amps

Hi guys!

What gauge speaker cables are you useing with the large PA type amps?
I will soon, hopefully, finish my two maelstrom builds, and need to buy some cables, both internal and external.
My amp is a Behringer EP4000.

Thanks

Re: Speaker cables, large amps

I think its still dependent on the distance of speaker wire you need. I think my Crown came with a speaker wire guide, but I didn't actually change my speaker wire. Its either 14 or 16 gage. Its only run a few feet too.

If your going to actually push your pro-amp, you might need to upgrade, but I'm probably not even pushing mine 25%, I just wanted a clean sounding amp.

12ga is fine unless you have a really long run over 50ft. You might want to use 10ga at that point. Just use either 2 or you can use 4 conductor 12ga speakon cables.

Ok, they only need to be about 3-3,5meters.
I asumed I would need 9 or 10 gauge. I might do that annyway, I like the cables to be on the beefy side.
Thank you!

With that distance and with the wire charts i have seen i wouldn't fear using 12awg. That should be more then sufficiant.

I go to Lowe's and buy 12g lamp chord for all my pro amps. I have runs from 5' to 25' and it has never failed me....

Here's a site with plenty of good information on speaker wire including a distance chart...

I like that you are not afraid to be one that does that tcarcio, i have read many reports that folks with "golden ears" cannot tell a differance in sound between that and say Nordost or some other mega buck brand.

I use 2.5mm˛ (~13 AWG) for just about everything.
