Stand alone amp

Looking at a Dayton SA 1000 stand alone amp from CCS. Would this amp be enough to driver two 15" subs for home theater?

Re: Stand alone amp

Yes, the amp can drive two 4- or 8-ohm subwoofer drivers.

I should have worded it differently. Would the amp have enough power to drive two 15" subwoofers (4 ohms) in a home theater setting. Says the amp is rated at 950 watts but I believe I've read somewhere its really only about 650 watts so only 325 per sub doesn't sound very good.

Re: Stand alone amp

Looking closer at the specs I see it’s a mono amp; I was thrown by the dual inputs. So for two drivers, that 950 watts @ 4-ohms ends up being 475 watts to two 8-ohm speakers.

It’s not easy to give you a definitive answer as to whether or not that’s enough power, because it depends on lots of things - your project, the size of your room, how loud you like to play the system, etc. Specifically to the former, 475 watts per driver might well be enough if you’re going with a high-output ported design, but that 475 watts won’t go nearly as far with a small sealed enclosure that requires lots of EQ boost at the lowest frequencies to make up for the small box.

Regards,
Wayne

Re: Stand alone amp

It depends heavily on what 15" subs you are talking about, and what enclosure they will be in. The easy answer is yes: 600 -1000W is plenty for two 15" subs, in general.
