Crown CL4 vs 2x Dayton SPA1000's

I have one diy 18" and I'm working on building a second matching one. The one that is completed already has a Dayton spa1000 mounted. I have someone who wants to trade a crown cl4 (1200wx2 In to 4 ohms) for a Fi driver I am trying to sell. I'm just wondering how a pro amp like that would compare to the Dayton plate amp? Would it be more powerful? Better or worse sound? Reliable? I couldn't find if the cl4 puts out 1200x2 peak or rms, does anyone know how Crown amps are rated?

The specs for the cl4 read 1200 watts x2 into 4 ohms *max avg. output*. Does that mean peak output? Not rms?

EDIT: I just read about ftc power rating. Would that make the crowns 1200 watts more conservative than rms?

Any comments on using pro amps for subs in a HT setting? I'm a little concerned about fan noise, no 12v trigger, no phase knob (although the spa1000 doesn't have that either) but this could be remedied with a minidsp.

The cl4 is apparently the contractor version of the ce4000. Both seem to be highly regarded.

Go with the crown. The Dayton plate amps have such bad reliability problems I couldn't possibly recommend one. I have a friend who's on his second or third SPA500 after I recommended he get a sub based on one (I still feel bad about it).

The biggest mystery with an otherwise unknown amp is it it has a built in HPF at 20 Hz or below.
