Speaker Level to Active Speakers (HELP)

Hello everyone,

I know this may sound very akward, but I do want to use these lovely studio monitors which I will refer to as speakers for now...I used to have my Genelec 1037's Active Monitors connected on an old Denon Receiver that had PRE OUTS. So my speakers ran over a DI Box and did perfectly well. I have now a Yamaha Receiver with NO pre outs. Only speaker terminals. It is obvious I cannot connect them directly. Is there a right way to do this? (My speakers have XLR connectors).

Thank you...

It´s a Yamaha RX-V677

It’ll be a DIY project all the way. You can solder some small-gauge speaker wire (like 22-24 ga.) to XLR connectors. It would also be a good idea to connect a load across the (+) and (-) speaker terminals to keep the amplifier happy. Something like a 10 watt 8-ohm resistor will do the trick. Easy to find at an electronics hobbyist shop.

Otherwise, you’ll simply need to get a receiver with RCA pre-amp outputs.

By the way - welcome to the Forum!

Regards,
Wayne

Oops. That's not the droid you're looking for. The RX-V777 is the AVR you wanted.

I have the 775, a slightly older or refurb model won't break the bank.
