Should I move the speakers?

I am in the process of upgrading the screen and projector. In taking down the old screen, which came with the house, I found Ribbon speakers and 12" cone speakers behind the screen. Should I leave the speakers in place and mount the new screen over the speakers. Or, should I move the speakers to either side of the screen?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

If you are installing an acoustically-transparent screen, you can leave them in place. Of course, they may not be positioned properly for that use but, if they are, you can use them. Otherwise, moving them is necessary.

I suspect that the increased cost of an AT screen will be less than the cost of moving in-wall speakers.

I agree with Kal. If the current speakers sound good to you the leave them there and mount an AT screen. If the don't you will either need to pull them out and replace them or leave them behind the new screen unused and purchase speakers for either side of the screen, in which case you wouldn't need an AT screen.
