  1. Speaker or Sub Distance Adjust?

    AV Home Theater
Really?! That's too cool--my wife will be ecstatic. Thanks much Brucek.
  2. Speaker or Sub Distance Adjust?

    AV Home Theater
Ahhh, like that, eh? OK, that's helpful. So, this shows me that I need some bass-trapping... What kind of "timing" are we shooting for, btw? Now I can re-check this waterfall against future measurments when I introduce/alter my room's acoustic treatment, correct? That way I can really...
  3. Speaker or Sub Distance Adjust?

    AV Home Theater
OK, that makes sense. I did do multiple measures just manipulating the sub's distance and it makes a rather impressive difference for sure. I'll have to read up on the RTA because I don't understand the simple "lines" it creates... Thanks again.
  4. Speaker or Sub Distance Adjust?

    AV Home Theater
Just trying to use the distance adjusting for phase control (my SubMersive doesn't have a phase/polarity switch or dial). So, when you are trying to smooth out the x-over area (and other parts of the line), do you only adjust the sub's distance in the AVR or do/can you adjust the speaker's...
  5. USB SoundCard - VISTA compatible

    SPL Meters | Mic's | Calibration | Sound Cards
Excellent! Thanks for the validation. Now I get the fun of figuring out how to use the QSC DSP-30! I probably shouldn't have bought it considering my lack of tech-ability; however, I'm hoping to use all of its powers to tame my room and get the SubMersive as close to perfect as possible...

Vista 64-bit and TB SRM? Hey BruceK, I've got a new PC laptop and I've been loading the TB SRM onto it. I am running Vista Home Premium 64bit and loaded the most recent drivers from TB's site. After fussing with my connections I've got the following results. Does everything look ok...
  7. BFD Alternatives: MiniDSP, FBQ, DCX and Others

    Electronic Processing/Equalization Devices
Re: BFD Alternatives: FBQ, SMS-1, DCX and more Thanks Wayne. This could be exciting for me to figure out, eh?! Looks like I'll have to get Mark Seaton to be my tech guru on this one. As you said, there are cheaper versions, though I picked mine up for similar $$ as those cheaper options...
  8. BFD Alternatives: MiniDSP, FBQ, DCX and Others

    Electronic Processing/Equalization Devices
Re: BFD Alternatives: FBQ, SMS-1, DCX and more Hey Guys, I'm stepping up to Mark Seaton's SubMersive in the next couple weeks (it ships this Friday). In anticipation, I've picked up a used QSC DSP-30, as per M.S.'s suggestion. I've used the BFD before and it worked fine with my...
  9. Next step up from Radio Shack digital SPL meter?

    REW Forum
I agree, I stepped up from the RS meter to the Galaxy CM-140 SPL meter/mic. It works very well for me in my REW setup. I particularly like the MAX setting that allows you to run through a scene or music selection and get the highest peak dB. I just keep it in the packaging it shipped in and...

Home Theater Room Photos (Finished Rooms Only)
Yup, me too. Any insights on how to do it and where to get the panels or DIY parts, etc.? I need all the juicy details! :nerd:
  11. USB SoundCard - VISTA compatible

    SPL Meters | Mic's | Calibration | Sound Cards
Good for you--I've really enjoyed using the Turtle Beach card and REW. My Ultra now sits in the best spot in the room and is happily munching away at my home's structural integrity--fascinatingly I'm grinning all along this destructive path... :hsd: Enjoy and thanks Brucek!!!

    REW Forum
Hey Bob, Excellent remarks! I loved the "maple under the preamp" example ... Brucek, I'm learning through your tutelage as you can see by the graph below! I'm keeping the 15hz tune and will probably have to bump up the output to offset the SPL loss (how much usually btw?) I'm...
  13. Audio Advantage SRM & Vista -- Calibration

    REW Forum
Sweet! Following your instructions, I've created the following graphs for my pb13 Ultra. I placed it along the back wall at the 1/3 position for the first three measurements (I did a total of 3 measurements per) with the three main "tuning" points 20hz, 15hz, and then 10hz. Then I moved...

Excellent and helpful response Brucek! Thanks for walking me through this!!!! I'm thrilled not to have to incorporate the BFD for all the reasons you mention, plus then I can sell it and put the little $$ toward my JVD RS-1! So, I'll turn down the input level (in the SRM's control...
  15. Audio Advantage SRM & Vista -- Calibration

    REW Forum
Wow, I found that these earlier graphs may or may not have had the sub engaged (the levels weren't kicking the sub on in its "auto" setting. I went over to adjust the volume, etc. and saw dreaded red light! No wonder the lower x-over graphed better! So, I turned it "on" and did the following...

Ok, so now I've got the sweep level at -17 and here's my graph using the 40hz x-over in my Onkyo 875. Now here's my 80hz x-over: Clearly have a better line with the lower x-over! Is there anything I can/should do to help my 20hz levels? Also, should I try to use the PEQ on my SVS...

    REW Forum
OK, I've downloaded the .cal file and have checked levels, and calibrated the SPL meter. I had trouble with the levels--there was clipping detected. I tried to follow the instructions about getting the spl meter to read 75db, but that seemed to take a lot of volume from my AVR/speakers. Any...

    REW Forum
Yes, that's the check of the loopback. I did clear the calibration file and I think the level is at 75db (how do I check?). The -6 one looked pretty good, didn't it? So, how can I get your file--I'm assuming that it will be easy to load by browsing my saved location... BTW, I do plan on...

Very cool then! :jiggy: If you don't mind, just send me your file if you think that will work well. Much thanks man!

Here's the same using -6 input setting: Is this right? I'm trying to follow all the instructions--I hate being high-maintenance... Thanks again, Phil
