  1. 1st Take: Klipsch RP-160M

    Home Audio Speakers
I like these so much, just ordered a 2nd pair from Crutchfield. $379/pair is a great deal. With free shipping! These will replace some lessor quality speakers in the Master BR. The 160M's are the best small speakers on the planet. I have become a Klipsch convert.
  2. 1st Take: Klipsch RF-7 III

    Home Audio Speakers
Everything is there on the website. On my PC, plus my iPad.
  3. 1st Take: Klipsch RF-7 III

    Home Audio Speakers
At any rate, the best speakers I have owned, or listened to. The pictures are there, in full living color.
  4. Theater / Movie Reference Level Audio?

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
How loud of a setting (in db) do I need to listen to movie soundtracks to achieve correct reference level audio playback? 70, 75, 80, 85 db's? And how / where do you measure? Center channel dialogue? Main L&R's? There are many peaks in volume, so it would need to be measured at a low part of...
  5. Best Speakers that you've heard

    Home Audio Speakers
My 16 year old Samsung SACD disc player (DVD-HD841) has the same DAC as my much newer (2017) Panasonic, and Sony (2019). I just sold all of my VMPS speakers. A pair of Mini Tower II A’s, and a gorgeous pair (piano black gloss) of RM2’s. These served me well...until I bought Klipsch. My new...
  6. Audio / Video Sync - Part II

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Well, this explains why the video PQ on my $39 Sony Blu-ray player is as good as my $700 Panasonic UB900. Yes, I’m serious.
  7. 1st Take: Klipsch RF-7 III

    Home Audio Speakers
Now that the 7's have been running 24/7 and are broken in, the sound has not changed much from the very initial listening tests. Still awesome, with deep, tight audiophile bass. And crystal clear mids and upper octaves. Never a hint of harshness, or being overly bright. Male...
  8. Audio / Video Sync - Part II

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Update: Removed my UB900, and plugged in my brand new UB820. The Yamaha recognizes the new Panasonic. With the Surround-Decode set to "Auto", and lip-sync set to "auto" in the CX-A5200, everything is spot on perfect. Not sure why, but the new UHD Blu-ray Player seems to do much better. The...
  9. Can we really hear a difference between amps?

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Amplification is not supposed to have any "sound". If done correctly, the job is to make audible what the recording engineers dictated for the final audio mix. Good quality amps and preamps should not affect what we hear as listeners.
  10. Is 4K really better than 1080P?

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
OK...my wife and I watched The Lion King, in UHD 4K Blu-ray. In a word, the detail was stunning. Nothing short of spectacular. The movie itself was quite boring. But my attention was riveted to the little detail items like the individual hairs on the lions. From a technical point of view, it is...
  11. Can we really hear a difference between amps?

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
The theater surround amps, 4 B&K, 2 Emotiva, all sound very neutral. B&K has a reputation for being "tube-like", but I do not think so. They are neutral, putting out whatever is delivered to them, in a manner that does not "color" the sound. Same for my Emotiva's. Neutral. Period. The RF-7's...
  12. Video feed - AV Pre-Pro or Projector?

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Riddle me this, Batman: Is it best to run the audio/video HDMI into the Pre-amp, with the video then going to the projector (or TV), or do you run a separate video HDMI to your projector, with an audio only HDMI to the Pre-Pro? Is it better for the video to completely bypass the processor...
  13. Is 4K really better than 1080P?

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
No projector is Dolby Vision capable. But, HDR10 is a reality, and I just placed my order for yet another Panasonic Blu-ray player, the UB820. This will allow my UB900 to serve duty in the family room.
  14. Echo

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Here is a suggestion...quite serious, actually. I do not know the degree of your hearing loss. But simply turn the volume up to where you can understand everything, dialogue, music, gun fire, explosions, etc. Then have everyone else employ the small foam ear inserts, to reduce the sound...
  15. 1st Take: Klipsch RF-7 III

    Home Audio Speakers
Just got a pair of these setup in my theater. They are replacing my VMPS RM2 Towers. The 7's go deep, really deep, with solid, tight, bass impact. Very musical. These are the closest speakers I have had that convey the feeling of a live performance. The clarity, presence, and liquidity of the...
  16. Audio / Video Sync - Part II

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Found what might be the problem, and it is the audio processing. Either the DMP-UB900, or the Yamaha. I ran the audio from the DMP-UB900 thru the L&R analog output into a two channel analog system. Ran the video, doing a side-by-side listen and watch test. There was a major (MAJOR) echo (delay)...
  17. Is 4K really better than 1080P?

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
In a word, no. Before you call me crazy (or worse), I have been looking at this in my personal home theater. Our equipment is current state-of-the-art, 4K. Including the processor (Yamaha CX-A5200), projector (Epson 5050UB), and player (Panasonic DMP-UB900). I even did a side-by-side shoot out...
  18. Yamaha CX-A5200

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Okay...here is the problem (again!), lip sync. It is a serious issue: Found what might be the problem, and it is the audio processing. Either the DMP-UB900, or the Yamaha. I ran the audio from the DMP-UB900 thru the L&R analog output into a two channel analog system. Ran the video, doing a...
  19. Klipsch RF-7III & RP-8000F

    Home Audio Speakers
Too late...just pulled the trigger on a pair of RF-7 III's. Did not sell both of my VMPS towers, kept the RM2's (for now).
  20. Klipsch R-820F (Part II)

    Home Audio Speakers
Did an A/B comparison last night with my VMPS Tower II SE's. Brian Cheny (owner/designer) of VMPS actually built these, and they were purchased direct from him. His speakers have gotten rave reviews in virtually all of the audio HIFI publications, including Stereophile Magazine. This is a very...
