  1. My Kid turned off the projector

    Home Theater Projectors
Found it. This is more targeted towards film projection but most of it still holds true for home applications
  2. My Kid turned off the projector

    Home Theater Projectors
Most of the damage to the lamp is caused when it is struck. This is because to strike a lamp it requires a high voltage electrical discharge across the electrodes followed by an extremely short period of boost current. This boost current is approximately 3 times the rated lamp current, this is...
  3. BFD for compression?

    AV Home Theater
you could try the dbx 166xl

Also you get get boxes which convert the signal from vga to Cat 5 for long runs and another box at the other end to convert it back
  5. Lights dim with buttkicker

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
wow really. In Australia it's a legal requirement to put lights and power on different circuits
  6. Lights dim with buttkicker

Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Question why are the sub and lights on the same circuit? Generally wiring is done so that the lights and power circuits are run seperately back to the switchboard. What size cable are you using? and how much current draw.
  7. Storing DVD on network

Computers | HTPC | Media Servers
I've never had a problem, try the above first then if it doesn't work go (after putting in a DVD) highlight it all - compression - no compression. That should work i did this from memory so it may be a bit off
  8. Storing DVD on network

Computers | HTPC | Media Servers
Google DVDShrink rips straight to .vob files with selectable (or no) compression then just open it with something like win DVD or Power DVD and watch away
  9. evolutionary science

    Chat Box SWAMP
I'll start off here with a statement Universal truth is not measured in mass appeal. Just because some people (even the majority) believe something to be true does not necessarily make it so. Also it is my belief that Christianity and evolution are incompatible. Ie evolution is death etc...
  10. panasonic ax 100u projector noise

    Home Theater Projectors
I don't know if this applies to the Panasonic but some models have a setting where you can select fan speed to either normal or fast (fast giving better cooling) check if your fan is set to fast
  11. CD vs. Vinyl

    CD-BD-DVD Music | Vinyl Records
I agree with DRF. Whilst the CD has a much larger dynamic range it seems that today most CD's are mastered to have the highest average volume. To accomplish this many of the dynamics of the music is removed
  12. Projector Vibrations

    DIY Subwoofers - General Discussion
The Vibration may just be from the normal operation of the projector. But anyway we were using a projector at a concert and the SPL there was in excess of 115Db, mostly staying around 120Db. No problems were encountered
  13. Need New Drill

    DIY Speakers
The DeWalt Cordless are pretty much industry standard, they will take the beating of in out use for a trade where a cheaper drill would burn out in a couple of months. That said Makita are also up there. If I had a choice i would get the dewalt but if you like the makita better than go for it.
  14. Power Considerations

    Remotes | Cables | Accessories | Tweaks
As I see it one 20 amp supply line would be enough (40amps for 120VAC)
  15. Current Draw

    AV Home Theater
Yep Many stage lighting systems use 120V lamps wired in series, don't know why. Was wondering whether to go 120 V or 240V
  16. Current Draw

    AV Home Theater
So would there be any benefits to wiring it this way or would it be better to just get the 240 volt version
  17. Power Conditioning and SMPSs

    Remotes | Cables | Accessories | Tweaks
I would just like to add that if you do decide to get a UPS make sure that you get a true online one otherwise you are just passing mains through the unit (UPS only switches on during a power outage)
  18. Surge Suppressors

    Remotes | Cables | Accessories | Tweaks
Has anyone considered a UPS for protection. They regulate the output voltage, provide backup in a power failure, and have inbuilt surge protection.
  19. Current Draw

    AV Home Theater
If I connect two 120 Volt 1000 Watt lamps in series wiring what will be the current draw. My guess is that the total draw would be 1000 Watts. (BTW in Australia we run 240 Volt power)
  20. Favorite LIVE concert?

    CD-BD-DVD Music | Vinyl Records
I would say the Anberlin concert in Australia. The band was great. Sound wasn't that great but I enjoyed the music
