  1. Missing distortion measurements

    REW Forum
I'm sorry your time was occupied with a misunderstanding: It is YOUR example in the HELP file which has no cursor. After I learned that I need to place the cursor in the graph to obtain the distortion measurements I was puzzled that your example could show distortion measurements but apparently...
  2. Viewing saved peak data from RTA spectrum

    REW Forum
I have saved RTA spectrum views with the SAVE button, and then these are saved in an *.mdat file, but I haven't worked out how to view this saved "peak data" again in the RTA, if indeed I can. There is a hint on p.158 of the PDF V5.19 HELP file "The saved measurements can be used as references...
  3. Missing distortion measurements

    REW Forum
Thanks, now I understand: it's the cursor position for which readings in the graph legend (= "panel" in my question) are shown. I had looked in the REW V5.19 HELP (PDF) first but could not find this instruction. To counter my misunderstanding you might care to add this information in the...
  4. Missing distortion measurements

    REW Forum
When I perform a sine sweep measurement and select the distortion display the measurements of distortion (% or dBr of the harmonics or THD) are often not displayed in the lower panel. The attached screen shot shows this situation. Sometimes the measurements appear, sometimes they don't. I...
  5. Date stamp on saved graph from RTA

    REW Forum
Excellent! That's a really useful outcome from this exchange. Thank you. I look forward to the next beta version.
  6. Date stamp on saved graph from RTA

    REW Forum
What I discovered yesterday, more by luck than judgement, was: When a measurement has been saved (SAVE button on the RTA or a swept-sine measurement) then the date stamp window in the RTA view is activated with today's date and the current time. Clicking on the camera icon saved me a JPEG of the...
  7. Date stamp on saved graph from RTA

    REW Forum
Of course, the first graph (of hum and noise from a Quad 405 amplifier) is dated Feb 19 (bottom left). The second graph (after replacement of defective capacitors) was recorded on 2nd April, but there is no date stamp; the area is greyed out and it reads "no measurement".
  8. Date stamp on saved graph from RTA

    REW Forum
Hi, I haven't been able to discover what controls the creation of the date and time stamp on the saved graph of the RTA. When I save a spectrum measurement as a JPEG I have sometimes had the date and time added, but recently the box is greyed out and I just see "no measurement". I'm running REW...
  9. understanding THD distortion measurements

    REW Forum
Thank you very much. I was only looking in the 5.18 version of the help. I have downloaded 5.19 and will study this now, which may answer another question.
  10. understanding THD distortion measurements

    REW Forum
I have a two-way loudspeaker system in which I do not understand the THD measurements I obtain with REW. The woofer THD measures like this (first jpg) before the crossover filtering (low pass LR2, miniDSP): Then after the low pass LR2 filter it looks like this (2nd jpg), with lots of...
  11. Safe amplifier distortion measurement?

    REW Forum
Thanks. This is the approach in the ARTA handbook as well: -20dB and zeners.
  12. Resonant decay with frequency drift?

    REW Forum
Thanks. That was a helpful link, which I have only just glanced at, but will read in full.
  13. Safe amplifier distortion measurement?

    REW Forum
Although I had successfully measured amplifer distortion at the loundspeaker terminals, when I did this a second time I managed to damage my inbuilt PC sound card. I was not using a voltage divider probe since I knew the AC levels were no more than 250mV. I don't fully understand what went...
  14. Resonant decay with frequency drift?

    REW Forum
Thank you. Following your explanation I experimented with the window values. Then I realised that I have become accustomed to using 1/3 octave filtering which smooths the curves into an orderly pattern that the eye can follow. However it also blurred the distinction between different resonances...
  15. Resonant decay with frequency drift?

    REW Forum
In examining the sound decay in my listening room of an open baffle loudspeaker system with the REW software I have observed that some resonances appear to increase in frequency with decay whereas others appear to decrease in frequency. The attached views show these phenomena. The first shows...
  16. gated frequency response

    REW Forum
I have been gating the impulse response of measurements in order to understand better the room contribution (floor/ceiling reflections) to the sound my speaker system produces. This has been most instructive. If I set the IR windows (Right Window) to 2,5mS then I can examine the impulse...
  17. No distortion graph

    REW Forum
Yes, the folder was accessible to the user (without administrator priviledges). Unfortunately I cannot recall exactly what the error message was. This happened twice, after which I made a point of logging on as administrator. XP has otherwise been very stable and I cannot recall having had this...
  18. No distortion graph

    REW Forum
Thanks JohnM. I have installed 5.18 and achieved distortion graphs for measurements I made today. However, I wasn't able to find the graphs for the "bugged" measurements. Earlier I had a problem that I couldn't save some measurements, which problem I bypassed by only using REW as an...
  19. No distortion graph

    REW Forum
Hi, I have been using REW 5,16 (Windows XP) for nearly a year and have just turned my attention to the distortion graph for earlier measurements of speaker performance made with a swept sine signal. Sometimes a graph is not available, often for the first measurement in a series (on the same...
