Introduction I will begin by admitting a bit of bias toward Yamaha audio components. For as long as I can remember, my uncle has had a vintage set of Yamaha speakers powered by a Yamaha receiver, and I have always loved the sound of his setup. I never stuck with piano lessons long enough to be...

Does anyone own a Marantz AV 7702? Can you comment on the unit itself and the differences, especially sound quality, in the unit it replaced or those you might have considered in the selection process?

DTS recently announced a new long-term strategic alliance with LG Electronics that allows DTS’s premium audio technology to be deployed on LG’s full lineup of home electronics entertainment products. This includes LG’s complete line of 4K UHD-TVs, sound bars, AV receivers, and media players...

Is the Seymour AV company different from the Seymour Excellence brand? I was looking at options for ambient light rejecting screens. I'm waiting for a quote on the DNP Supernova. I came across the Ambient Visionaire and the it seems to have decent review on the accucal screen report. However...

Hi, my sister recently received a bigger TV than what she was using. It's 55" but unfortunately it's an older model, kinda like one of those big boxy rear-projection type tv's. It has no HDMI or DVI inputs but has component (YPbPr) inputs. Her blu-ray player only has HDMI out on it....so does...
  6. System Setup and Connection
A little over two years ago we moved into our present home and with the help of some folks here at HTS I was able to get some of the existing cable issues solved. (See this thread for more info.) Things have progressed and I now have a 75" Samsung being driven by a Sony STR-DH820 via HDMI...

I all, I've not been present much on the forum much since a few years. My speaker setup was pretty much done. I've made a nice DIY subwoofer with help of some forum member over here (I will add photo down here later). I've also moved in appartement and since then I've not upgraded anything...

Is there such a thing as in-wall or hidden AV processor? I heard that Olufsen is making such a thing, but very pricey. Anyone else makes one? Just process no power amp, to be used with active speakers. Going for the clean look, just TV and nothing else.

This is a real game changer in my opinion. Pioneer has sold most of its A/V section to Onkyo including all its receiver technology. Might we be seeing some class D receivers in Onkyos lineup in the near future? More details here

Several weeks ago we previewed Sony’s new line-up of AV Receivers that included a 7.2 channel model capable of 4K pass-through priced in the mid $300’s. As of yesterday, Sony is no longer the only big name manufacturer offering the latest bells and whistles for less coin. This time Denon…yes...

Sony Electronics has been on a Hi-Resolution Audio kick, making the technology a major part of its 2014 product campaign. They aren’t alone in their revitalized love for high quality musical fidelity, with many other industry players highlighting Hi-Res playback features on their AV Receivers...

Several weeks ago we previewed Onkyo’s TX-NR535 and TX-NR636 AV Receivers, both loaded with solid features for entry level gear. A big surprise was the removal of Audyssey room correction in favor of the company’s new proprietary AccuEQ room calibration suite. We contacted Onkyo about the...

Firstly, the use of my system, I watch a lot of movies mainly via external hdd in mkv format, strictly 1080p and dts sound. In my spare time, I love to listen to music normally R&B/Hip Hop/Rap with a lot of beats/bass, I like to listen to it pretty loud and the Sony I mention below didn't do it...

Display your gear with minimal cable lengths or separate your gear in a closet and live with much longer cable lengths? These are two different approaches folks take and a lot of ad-hoc in between. The approach I have taken is to provision two a/v closets supporting three home theater...
  20. System Setup and Connection
Finally building (hopefully) my dream theater/audio setup. For now, my questions are about the AV receiver/amp/stereo hookup. I will be using the system for 60/40 video/stereo. I "know" great sound/clarity and will be upset if Dark Side of the Moon doesn't floor me. Soooo I am about to...
