  1. Audio Processing
Pre-Ringing can occur in systems that involve digital signal processing (DSP) with some sort of time shifting or correction taking place. Linear Phase systems, FIR filtering, Room Correction, and similar processes can cause pre-ringing. Notice the word can - there are numerous conditions that...
  2. CD-BD-DVD Music | Vinyl Records
Well, I can't really hear those high frequencies--but I can perceive them. Everyone can! People argue about CD this vs. LP that all the time when they should really be arguing about the best way to capture and reproduce harmonics. Why? Because harmonics are one of the details where music...

Try this. This clearly demonstrates sight bias and why its so important to use blind listening tests to determine which component produces the best sound. http://youtu.be/G-lN8vWm3m0
  4. System Setup and Connection
I see too many people posting their setups showing off some of the worst possible speaker placements I've ever seen. I posted this in reply to one of those threads, but I thought I'd create a new thread so more people might see it. Some major problems I see all too often on /r/vinyl: Your...
  5. Home Audio Speakers
I am wondering if anyone has heard the Polk RtiA9s? What did you think? Are they good bang for the buck? Here are the speakers in question: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107RTIA9B/Polk-Audio-RTi-A9-Black.html
  6. Home Audio Speakers
First. I do not have bad hearing. I don't have wood floors. There are openings to the room. It's a living room, but it's not a giant house with all the open floor plan stuff. I hope that makes sense. Ok. It's primarily when it is Pro Logic. Doesn't matter if it's TV or a DVD. I also am...

I have a Yamaha RX v765 receiver. I just bought a new television last week. So I am trying to connect the television to the receiver, as well my Fios box, and my xbox to it as well. Well obviously I am using HDMI cables but for some odd reason I can hear audio but I can't see anything . I...
  10. DIY Speakers
Unfortunately I've been somewhat of a leech on this forum reading all the time and never posting. Well I'm going to change that now as I'm hoping to start some adventurous projects. My motto is do it right the first time and spend your money once. Basically go big or go home. I have never...
  11. Audio Processing
I am having a hard time hearing spoken dialogue with my new system unless I have the volume turned really high. Is there a setting I can adjust besides just turning up my center channel? I use a Yamaha RX-V667 with Energy Take Classic 5.1 Any suggestions appreciated! Sent from my iPhone...
  12. Home Audio Speakers
Hi, I have another thread on the forums here asking advice on whether to choose between the Wharfedale 10.7's, Swan Diva 6.2 or the JBl tl260's. I have heard the Swans and am hearing the Wharfies ( and maybe Revel f12's just to confuse the mix) this weekend, but before my final decision I...
  13. Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Can we really hear a difference between two amps? More specifically... between two amps that have been level matched in a controlled listening test. We are not talking about amps that have been modified or are driven beyond their reasonable limits. What a crazy and completely worn out...
  14. Two Channel Audio
Any of you Shacksters using a stereo receiver to do your two-channel dirty work, speak up! Do you like your receiver? Does it push enough clean power for you? Share some setup pics as well! I absolutely love my Onkyo TX-8555; this thing is a real brute -- especially considering its ridiculously...
  15. Pro Audio
The Scene: 600 seat auditorium with stage. Rock band with stage monitors.. no in-ears. Front of House engineer (FOH) is complaining the band is so loud that he barely has the FOH speakers turned up. Everyone turns amps down. Musicians are livid.... they can't hear themselves play or...
  16. Sealed Subwoofer Build Projects
Could not wait to veneer the entire thing, so I just did the bottom so I could put the feet on, and thus USE IT. The feet give it a "floating" sort of look, and allow me to slide it around on the carpet. Used two of the $2.50 wallyworld pillows for stuffing. With the grill on, held on with...
  17. Home Audio Speakers
During movie dialogue I am hearing an echo. I hear dialogue from the center and surrounds. The volume from the surrounds is much lower and slightly delayed. Hence the echo effect. Also the dialogue is not constant from the surround. Can someone tell me why this is happening?
  18. New Member Introductions
Good to be here. I am new at this but learning. I am researching and replacing really old audio equipment first, then I will do the television. The TV is a Toshiba flatscreen crt type. I am working on the audio first and gradually since I am not made of money. I wish! I have purchased bookshelf...
