  1. General Service and Technical Information
Hi, I have a Onkyo HT-R820thx purchased in 2006 that I use for watching perhaps 3-4 movies per week. No issues with the sound or performance. The concern that I have is the receiver gets very hot during usage. By the time the movie is over, the receiver is too hot to touch (I am guessing...

  5. System Setup and Connection
I just ran a new Audyssey calibration on my Denon 4520 and did some tests using the REW and the Umik1. In the past I've used an analog connection between the pc and AVR so I've only tested the L & R main channels. Now I'm using HDMI so I also ran the other channels too, I've attached a...
  6. Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
Hi All, Probably showing my ignorance here, but I have been experiencing some pop/crackle coming from my 2 channel set up. The speakers are brand new and I have checked all cables, wires, etc. I swapped out the amp mentioned above with an Emotiva Mini-x currently not being used. The pop/crackle...

  11. DIY Screens
Ok, I have determined that I like a Dead Flat screen. My BW screen has an ever so slight sheen to it, and I am getting a hot spot. Outside of the HS, I love the picture. Actually, it's only noticeable during a bright, solid scene....but still, it's there. I am sitting close(7ish feet away from...
  12. SPL Meters | Mic's | Calibration | Sound Cards
Is it true when using Radio shack SPL meter if you set volume to 75db it is actually 78db? So should I just set it to 72db instead. Or set the trim to -3db in the receiver settings? What about when using a calibrated mic and REW, is the db displayed in the software accurate?
  13. DIY Screens
I know, I know,: heresy. :D Seriously though, is it possible there is a place for a screen with some hot spotting? Please don’t flame me; I’m really just trying to figure a few things out before I go with my next screen. Hopefully I can tap into greater knowledge and expertise than I have...

  15. Home Theater Receivers | Processors | Amps
So i have a Denon 3808ci in which has just been given preamp duties since i got my outboard amp a week ago but i noticed it still gets hot, even when in 2 channel pure direct mode, i assumed it was because of the proccesing happening in the AVR but in pure direct it should be bypassing any...
  16. Remotes | Cables | Accessories | Tweaks
Hi, I recently bought a Gizmo / WAF-1 package. I have the Gizmo hooked up to a few sources but I noticed a bit of muddy distortion when I play some CDs through a Pioneer DV-563A. I'm thinking perhaps the Pioneer's output is too hot for the Gizmo. I have the 563A connected to the Gizmo...
  17. General Screen Discussion
Just finished up my screen build project with Wilsonart FG coupled with a PT-AX200U. Fired up the pj and am very pleased with the picture. I did notice when the pj is throwing a blue screen, when the DVD player is off, there is a bright spot thats directly in line with the lens. It's funny...

  20. Movies | TV Shows | Hollywood
I'm not sure what the intent was but Hot Fuzz is so hot in the LFE track that I had to turn down my IB for fear of toasting my amp. I think it must be for comedic effect but I wonder if they just had a poor mixing crew. Don't get me wrong, it is a LOT of fun listening to the LFE in this movie...
