  1. Is this normal response for a horn loaded woofer?

    REW Forum
Today we hooked up the bass bins only. We bypassed the Dirac, and crossover and ran the cable straight from my Yamaha CX-A5100 preamp to the Crest Audio amp. Can anyone explain to me why we have this result? Granted it is a 50db range, but is it normal for a Single woofer to respond like this on...
  2. 12" rear loaded folded horn

    Ported Subwoofer Build Projects
Here are some pictures of my latest project. It won't go as deep as some LLT designs I have seen but I have limited space and power. It's a big step up from the 8" band pass I was using.
  3. Cedar Creek Cinema: Ultra Loaded

    SVSound
I am pretty close to having my Ultra Loaded Cedar Creek Cinema finished. All I lack are the 4 Prime Satellite speakers for the ceiling to get Dolby Atmos setup, but not a big hurry, since there are so few titles released with the Atmos encoding. I hope to have that done in the next 30-60 days...

  5. Horn loaded tweeter

    Home Audio Speakers
What is the difference between a Horn loaded tweeter and a regular tweeter? Is there a sound difference? Is one better than the other? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=303-434 Does this style speaker have an advantage over a single woofer...
  6. New build - for the 12" horn loaded subwoofer - a Pair !

    Ported Subwoofer Build Projects
Ok - I have been reading all about the evolution of this design for quite some time now. I had almost been going to build the large Decware horn. There is one here in Perth in Western Australia, and I have heard it. But Mark's design seems to be way ahead of anything else that I have read about...
  7. Ultimate Subwoofer

    Ported Subwoofer Build Projects
This will probably be the drop off point for most of the info for the revamped ultimate horn subwoofer. This box has been built by quite a few gents and delivers boom like none other I have designed or listened to. The original driver is no longer available, but there is a replacement. And it...

Hello all,Anyone here ever messed around with horn loaded cabinets?I'd like to build a set of pa tops using a 12" midbass, midrange compression horn and compression tweet.Anyway I'd like to horn load the 12 and run a bandwidth of about 150-800Hz on it.Would like to keep the cabinet as portable as...
  11. Mass Loaded Vinyl

    Home Theater Design and Construction
Both the supply and return plenums form the HVAC system are running pretty much the width of my HT in the basement with five duct lines coming off and running the length of the room to the living area above. Is using MLV on the bottom and sides of the plenum and around the duct lines to reduce...
  12. Css trio 12 loaded horn

    Creative Sound Solutions
Was just perusing the CSS web site and noticed a loaded horn kit involving the trio 12 sub driver. Does anyone have any insights or experience with this design? It looks very impressive on paper as far as FR and SPL are concerned...I'm suddenly very interested. One concern is placement. The most...
  13. F20 front loaded horn build

    Ported Subwoofer Build Projects
I built a pair of these for/with my buddy this weekend. Pretty easy build, got two done in two days from start to finish. This is lilmike's design, it's been posted on the avs forum, not sure if elsewhere. New owner in there for size, note: not me :)
  14. Big D' s Folded Horn Speakers w Fostex Full-Range Drivers

    DIY Speakers
MY DIY FOLDED HORN SPEAKERS WITH FULL-RANGE DRIVERS After toying with different plans to build two speakers for my two-channel room, I finally decided to make two folded horn cabinets with 8" Fostex full-range drivers and Fostex super tweeters. I have owned many different type of speakers, but...
  15. Mal-X Horn Modeling Help... Calling all Horn Guru's : )

    DIY Subwoofers - General Discussion
Does this horn modeling look correct to those that know more than I about hornresp? Any feedback from the horn gurus would be much appreciated. :T
  16. Compound loaded woofers

    DIY Speakers
I'm quite intrigued with what can be accomplished with an open baffle/dipole mains setup for dynamic Hifi and HT use but i can't get my head around the inefficiency of OB bass-no low end extension, lots of drivers, terrible efficiency and so on. For the purposes of efficiency and very high SQ, i...
  17. Dealing with one speaker corner loaded

    Home Audio Acoustics
I have been playing around with speaker placement in my room and there's one phenomenon I can't seem to get around: I have one speaker on an "open" wall to a larger part of the room, and the other is in a corner. It can be as far as 2' from the back and side walls, but still, one speaker is...
  18. Finally Corner Loaded

    Home Audio Subwoofers
In my pre-BFD days, I moved my sub around the room and found the spot that sounded best to me was directly behind my listening position. When I got the BFD, I did not move the sub, I just EQed it where it was and was very impressed by the improvement. Later I started to wonder if moving the sub...
