So, I have almost completed my new sonotube build. 192L or 6.8 cubic feet tuned to 18hz.

Here was after some router work. I was getting the holes lined up for the T-nuts. Oh, and the chairs were not going anywhere, they are anchored.

Painted and legs.

Port tube. 6" PVC.

Almost there.

Here is my setup with my brand new 50" G15!. You can see the sub they are replacing. The build for the Rockford Fosgate is in the Database.

Here is where they will be placed.



I will be covering the the tube in black grill cloth. I rapped them just to get a look and believe they will look nice. I also need to build a vent cover. The paint is simply Krylon flat black to match the eD speakers. As for the sound....WOW. I am stepping up from a Fosgate taking 200 watt and hitting, I think it was, around [email protected] according to WINisd. These things are closer to [email protected] each powered by a EP-2500 bridged @4ohm. The power is only the beginning though. I have not had time to really tune them in but, the quality is leaps and bounds ahead. Absolutely smooth! The Fosgate is getting to where there is tons of driver noise. It just sounds sloppy.

I am hoping to learn REW and get some measurements to show one day but, at the moment don't have time.

I'm able to send about 800w to each sub so the EP only needs to send out about 1600 watts which leaves plenty of headroom. I have a ed eq.2 to handle the subsonic set at around 15hz.

Question. On the eq.2 I remember I need to have the master gain set all the way up but, as far as the gain level on band 1 (the input i'm using) does it need to be kept at 0?

I remember someone telling me that the GAIN control needs to be set to max for some technical reason. I"ll try and find it.

I see what your saying Band 1 and 2 are different frequencies. I was thinking they were same but for 2 inputs. DOH! 8 \.

OK found something on the GAIN for the eq.2 and was actually asking you Sonnie but, he is asking what I was told.

Interesting. Thanks for the info Sonnie. I may try to get with the electrical engineers at the company I work for to see if they have any info/input/suggestions. If anybody else has any input or experience I'm all ears.

Ah, very nice, Koopa. I use the gain on my eq.2 to blend with my system, for instance, in my current setup I keep it at about the 1 oclock position for movies, but crank it over to max for music (RnR:dumbcrazy while always keeping the amp's gain at max, as suggested in its manual. Don't know if that's correct, but just what I do. Nice build-welcome to the sonosub club:T

I find myself doing similar ironglen. I have the gain cranked down on the eq.2 for movies and crank it up for music or to impress. Your comment on the amp settings had me curious. I read up and learned something new. Sounds like using the control on the eq.2 is exactly what we should do.
