I am working a convergence issue with my Hitachi. I have noticed a green wire on the bottom-side of the convergence board. I have a photo that I will try and upload to this post. I am curious about this wire. I am used to green wires being used on rework workarounds on these types of assemblies. Any clues?

I should add I ordered Kit X480302 from Andrews today, will be here tomorrow. I have what appears to be a classic convergence issue. I bought this tv used in Jan 09. No history available before then. Was working o.k. until last Sunday. There also seems to be a lot of left over flux (which I will clean off) on the edge of the board in the picture. This tells me someone has been here before. The chips installed are original units (STK392-110).

Basically I need to know if the green wire is a common thing and to re-solder it back in place when I get the new chips and resistors in there tomorrow. The end of the wire that is soldered to the chip, has a solder-bridge to the adjacent pad as well. Would this this bridge be intentional if the green wire is supposed to be there? Again, I have seen this type of thing on unrelated electronics before, I am just not familiar with T.V.'s . Thanks in advance for your help.

The wire is factory installed and should be replaced as you found it. The board looks like it has never been reworked to me.

If you have not done so, I suggest you read the first ten posts in the convergence repair sticky in the DIY repair forum very carefully.

Perfect, perfect, perfect. Thank you for your assistance. The kit from Andrews was excellent first quality Sanyo IC's with exactly correct resistors. $80 later, I have a nicely converged Hitachi and happy family.

I may do this sort of thing as side work some day!

I ordered some Sanyo IC chips and have run into this problem with this same board. First there is a lot more solder on the green wire, and I have a 30 watt solder iron. Is this powerful enough to take off the large amount?

What concerns me is that this wire is damaged in the middle and needs to be replaced. Can anyone tell me the name of the wire? I am planning on going to Radio Shack and hoping they sell them, but since they don't sell the chips I'm not sure if they will sell the wire. I wish I had done an inspection before ordering the IC's, because it was melted before I even soldered. It might explain the problems I had on the TV that would come intermittently after the TV was on for a while.

Your iron may be adequate if you have a large tip and are patient enough to let it get hot between joints and keep it clean.

The green wire is an extra ground and the type is not critical. How is it damaged?

A picture is worth a thousand words. The wire is exposed, I have no idea what caused it.

Is it called a bridge wire? I don't know where to find a replacement, I'll try radio shack first.

P.S. I hope I didn't break any rules. I did try to upload the photos using 'Update & Manage' but it said my files were to big and to manually shrink them. I don't own any photo editing software, I have a very old digital camera (sad that five years is old...) that's on it's last legs.
