Hi All,

I see there is a thread for the EP model amps from Behringer, namely the EP2500 and 1500.

I just purchased one of the new model amps, the EPX2000, which is supposedly a lighter weight, quieter amplifier. Sadly it's still rather noisy.

I am wondering if anyone could advise me on modifying the fan on this model.

Would it be the same kind of process as with the older EP2500 amps?

I am in Australia. Does anyone know of the best fan to buy locally in Australia?

Would be greatly appreciated.

About same process pop the hood, locate fan, remove screws and replace the fan just make sure of the voltage of the fans in your amp before ordering, probably 12 or 24 volts

Nice one. Just opened it up, and there's 2 fans, both 24Volts.

I ordered 3 fans from Newark last night, only to realise later that they won't ship until January 14th 2010 So I'm going to cancel that order and try somewhere else!

Just ordered a few from Digikey, as they had them in stock. Hopefully will arrive late this week so I can mod the amp and have it all ready to go for my new HT next week

I just received my fan from digikey (tried newark as well and got the same backorder status). I ended up running into a problem with my fan. Not sure if I ordered the wrong one or if I got a dud. Do you know what the part # is of the one you ordered? I posted in the ep2500 thread but got no response so far. Hopefully you have better luck than I am currently....everyone seems to have no problem with this mod except me.

I saw your post...

One thing I did when I screwed my lid back on after checking what fans I had..... was that I accidentally screwed the top on so that the metal lip was on the outside of the back of the chassis, and kinda bent the chassis a little... turned it on and it made a strange noise..

so I undid it and realized what I had done.. then repositioned the top lid properly so that the lip at the back sat inside the chassis. I'm unsure if the design is the same on the 2500.. but maybe when you screwed it all back together you did the same thing I did... which could be putting pressure on the fan causing it to not work?

I hadn't even put the cover back on yet.... and it had stopped working. I took it out, disconnected it, and it spins freely by hand so I don't think that is the problem I am having. I am thinking maybe I got a fan with the wrong amperage or something. It's 24 volts. Thanks for the input though. Maybe one of these days someone will pipe up with an answer for me. It's probably something simple that I overlooked.

ahh I dont have my new fans yet.. I was just opening my amp to confirm that the fans were 24v... my fans should arrive by next week

hi Mika,

Well I have merely switched the amp on. It's not connected to any speakers. But from what I can hear, they're on from startup, and stay on, at a constant speed, blowing into the unit from the back. Only the right fan (looking from the front) blows through the amp into a piece of cloth/material before passing the air out the front. The left fan blows freely into the amp to cool the other components.

I'll take a photo once the new fans arrive

Thanks for that Scott, reading the Brochure led me to believe otherwise..

Interesting. I did see that too. All I can say is what I have heard so far. I have left the unit on for about 2 - 3 minutes, and the whirring noise stayed constant, and neither got louder, or softer. I can only imagine it would get louder as the load increased?

Fans have arrived... got 3 of them.. so I have one spare in case I do something wrong and b0rk a fan! Will let you know how I go!

PS - Im gonna snip the wires, then solder them.. but whats this plastic-wrap technique?!?

Bringing this one back from the dead. Just wondering how this went and how much quieter it is is. Also what fans you ended up useing.

Heya,

It all went great. I actually ended up getting a local electronics guy replace the fans for me as I didn't feel confident getting in and doing it myself.

The fans I got are the ones everyone were suggesting to get. They are essentially silent. I have them in my dedicated light/sound controlled HT room and I cannot hear a thing.

The amp has worked great since the upgrade. Plenty of power for my needs. Never really pushed it past its limits. In fact I have to keep the 0.1 channel down a little as it can be a little over the top!

I have had the amp randomly switch off a couple of times in 4 years. But that hasn't really bothered me.

Sweet thats what I wanted to hear. How hard do you have to push it for it to shut off and do you have the name and model of the fans

To be honest I have never had it shut off from pushing it hard. The only times it has shut off have been completely random and almost always at only normal or low volume. It's only happened a handful of times in the 4-5 years I have had the amp.

I will see if I can find the spare fan I have so I can confirm which one it is. But I am 99% certain it's the SAME fan as used in other mods of the older Behringer amps

For anyone interested I did the mod. I used the some pretty low db fans and the noise at the front vents went from 75db to 64db. It is now quiter than my projector. Took about an hour. Me and my son did it and I thought him as we went. Before I swear this thing was unbearable.
