HELLO ALL, Im new to the shack

I have a 65" sharp dlp 65dr650.... ive read a lot about this tv... the light engine is defective i think... Any way, i had some problems recently wiht the tv shutting off about 30 min after powering up.. Before it goes out it blinks and flickers and makes this loud, long, annoying whistle sound, then shuts off and powers back on, does this repeatedly.

I recently bought a new lamp buld cuz i thought it was the bulb but it still does the same thing. I have done ample research and think maybe its the COLORWHEEL. Not 100% sure though. any way found a COLORWHEEL for 180 dollars in florida at a tv shop, should i get it or will it not fix my problem?

Please help?????????????????????????????

Likely a color wheel, but it is hard to say without being there to check it. If the sound is coming from the CW, then it is bad. Are you getting a used part? AFAIK, the CW is only available as part of the entire light engine on those. Who is selling you the part?

i cant really tell where the sound is coming from????? i found one from a tv repair shop in florida..... i was doing a lot of research and someone on fixya website said they know where to get em..... he said its new for 180$... i also found one on ebay for 250$... im scared to buy it though and have the piece not work.........................:wits-end:

He's saying that you have to buy the whole light engine part. Either you can't purchase the CW by itself, or you can't replace the CW by itself (i.e., to replace the CW, you have to replace the light engine).
WADIZ, if you post the details of who you are considering doing business with, perhaps someone has experience with them or can check them out. Also, if it is legit it is useful info for other people.

Otto is correct, many vendors do not offer it as a discrete part. Last info I got from Sharp, this was the case. It could have changed or someone could have found a source to the OEM.

I havent done buisness with anyone yet.... The TV repair store in florida is TVCR, they said that he has colorwheels for the Sharp 65dr650,,, Also i saw one on ebay, just the colorwheel, so why would you say you have to buy the whole engine? thanks
Leonard usually knows what's up with this type of stuff. If you post the link to the eBay auction, he can verify if it will work or not.

I said AFAIK it is not because it is not listed as a discrete part in the service info nor on the web sites for Sharp parts distributors. That may have or may change in the future, but some vendors do not supply it seperately. I would get the part number and the source from whomever claims to have it so that we can check them out. Or you can just order it and take your chances.

Thanks bro, I think im gonna order it with my credit card and if it doesn't work file a dispute......
Im so sick of the picture going in and out. It sure is a nice picture when it does work... Are all Sharp products like this or is it just this one?
Just read the fine print. Online vendors can be problems...
hi there, unfortunately the light engine w/color wheel is what is out there on alot of the websites that sell parts, the part alone could not be found....good luck
