"CSS TRIO 12" -does it deliver the goods?

As far as that answer- I can't tell you, but two 12"s will likely have more displacement in the form of cone area and travel combined. Will you go ported or sealed-huge difference in size, and two 12"s will need quite a bit of room ported; so if you don't have any size issues, have placement flexibility, desire greater output spl, and for music only I'd recommend the 12"s in nice sized ported boxes...with plenty of power, of course!

Another option is to wait on some HTS'ers that are working on a 'crazy' exodus shiva bass horn behemoth .

......I would like to go with a ported sdx-15, but the enclosure would be too big. 2 12" subs in their own 4 cu.ft ported box would be reasonable. I would hook up either a bash 300 or 500 to each sub. I want to be able to physically move them between rooms. So when the girlfriend is out, i can try and shake the walls apart, have some fun, drink some beer, invite friends over and disturb the neighbor who loves to wake me and the girlfriend up every morning at 5:30 am with this harley with open pipes.

I have a trio12 in a sonotube........... check the member database......... it sounds great

The specs should be accurate- and with the xbl motor, shorting rings, and other quality materials, it should quite capable of what you're looking for. They saved $ on the stamped frame (a good compromise imo), so they could meet that price point without losing sound quality/output capability.

Do you think having a pair of "trio 12's" in their own recommended enclosure of 4.5 cu.ft tuned to 20 hz wired in parallel for an overall impedance of 2 ohms mono hooked up to a "reckhorn a-403" amp running 400 watts rms (200 to each woofer), would be suffucient to get high bass-spl levels? Or would i have to run more power?:bigsmile::bigsmile:

Well, as you'll find on HTS, 'enough' or 'high output' are quite variable terms! The room in which you'll use these will have a profound effect on the spl: the smaller and fewer openings to other rooms will drive that spl up immensely while an open layout (such as mine:doh will require much more power and displacement. Bass requires a lot more power than the upper frequencies to provide that oomph.

There are a lot of different ways to go about building a sub. But I will say the P-R kits might just hit the spot.

Hey, checked out that reckhorn amp: while not the most powerful amp, it sure is loaded with its parametric eq, ability to use with satellite stereo mains, and it is ported sub ready with the hpf built-in to boot! Not too sure about it driving the trio's to desired spl's though. A pair of those should handle almost twice the power of the reckhorn (not sure why they modeled the 12 with 500w input?)

............It looks like a nice little amp(reckhorn), but i wish it had more power. On their website it says they are releasing a "1000" model. It shows that you can run 2 ohms mono, in their manual, but does not give power ratings into 2 ohms.

I would wait with ordering this driver as there are QC problems.
I have had two now where the basket and the motor sructure are not mounted properly.
So i dont know yet how they work.
Must say that Bob Reimer of CSS is great to work with.
Still waiting for a good one to arrive.

...........Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

There can be problems with any sub from a manufacturing plant, but as far as how they work, there are lots of people happy with the subs performance.
