About 3-4 inches from the top of the screen, the picture "streches". The convergence is great which tells me that it has nothing to do with it. I have the service manual but it tells me nothing about this symtom. Im pretty sure its a component level repair, so any help with this would be greatly appreicated.

Typically, that symptom indicates a problem in a capacitor on the vertical output stage or a bad output device.

wow. what a very quick response. ill be taking a look at it a little later. I gotta furnace to look at right now. Life is impeding. what a great forum!!!!

OH...........i would imagine it would be an electrolytic capacitor rather that ceramic disc type or little flat box type.... thanks for all your help lcallico

Yes, electrolytics are usually the culprits. Sometimes tantalum electrolytics are used, but I don't recall in these sets, as I have rarely seen vertical problems in them.
